Virtua Fighter is making a comeback, but not in the way you might think

We've all got a soft spot for the games we grew up with.

Thankfully, a lot of those games get updated and re-released on new consoles, or they get new sequels that we can play, so we never have to worry too much about it.

That's not always the case though, and certainly not for fans of Virtua Fighter, a fighting game from SEGA that a lot of fans really miss.

Well, the good news is that it's coming back, but the bad news is that it's not as a new game.

Virtua Fighter is coming to Goonya Fighter

As reported on by Dengeki Online, but then translated by SEGA Bits, there's going to be a return to action for the Virtua Fighters.

However, rather than this being in a game where their fighting styles could be implemented, they are coming to a game called Goonya Fighter instead.

You can take a look at some of the artwork for the crossover thanks to this Tweet from the Goonya Fighter Twitter account

You have to admit, while this might not be what people wanted, the models do look very good. Of course, this is all good and well, but it's quite possible that you've never heard of Goonya Fighter, so what exactly is it?

What is Goonya Fighter

Goonya Fighter is a party fighting game. That means it's not necessarily what you'd expect from a fighting game, and instead offers a far more distinct kind of gameplay.

In this case, the Goonya Fighter are all rather floppy. Imagine pitting different ragdolls against each other and you've got a pretty good version of what goes down in the average match.

There are multiple game modes though, the standard battle, a coin battle where you have to get money, and a race.

Maybe this crossover will see the game rocket to new heights?
