The Tower of Fantasy black screen issue makes it something of a challenge to actually explore the world. And we don't think the developers intended the game to literally be a figment of your imagination.

We get it. It's a new game, so there are bound to be issues, such as the Tower of Fantasy lag problem we've discussed elsewhere. But the black screen, like many other issues, can potentially be fixed. So look for the ray of light, and we'll guide you towards it.

Read on below to find out the solution to the Tower of Fantasy black screen problem.

How To Fix The Tower Of Fantasy Black Screen Issue

As per the Dev's Report released by the ToF team on August 16, they are working to address the black screen issue. Although there isn't a definite date, the report says that the blank error pop-up window issue will be fixed soon.

In the meantime, you can try out the following troubleshooting tips.

Before we embark on this journey of discovery, it's important to make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for the game. If it does not, then you are going to encounter all kinds of issues. The minimum system requirements are as follows:

  • OS: Windows 7 SP1 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i5 or equivalent
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 25 GB available space

The recommended specs are:

  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel Core i7
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 1060 6GB
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 30 GB available space

Assuming you have a system that is up to the task of running the game, here's what we suggest you try next.

Alt+Tab

Sometimes, all you need to do is press Alt+Tab to exit the game window, wait a few moments then try going back into it. So start here, as it's by far the easiest solution we've got.

Restart the Game

If that doesn't work, then we'd suggest you try to restart your computer. This will also close other processes that might have been interfering with the game.

Hopefully, this will be sufficient to sort out your black screen issue. But if not, there's more you can try.

Check for Updates

Updates are likely to come thick and fast in the early days after a new game is released. Many of these will contain fixes for issues that have been identified by the game developers. So it's important to check for any outstanding updates, and install any that are available.

But it's also important to make sure your OS and graphics drivers are fully updated as well. If you use an AMD graphics card, you can go here for updates. For NVIDIA, go here, and for Intel, go here.

Check Your Internet Connection

This almost goes without saying. Almost. But we'll say it: make sure your internet connection is working properly. If you're on WiFi, see if you can move closer to your router.

If possible, switch to an ethernet connection, as this will usually be more stable.

And finally, if there is a lot of traffic competing for bandwidth on your network, try to reduce it. So don't stream music, or movies, while trying to play Tower of Fantasy.

Disable Your Antivirus or Firewall

Another common cause for problems with games is an overenthusiastic firewall or antivirus program.

In the first instance, try adding Tower of Fantasy to your whitelist, to stop these programs from potentially blocking the game.

If that doesn't appear to make a difference, you can consider temporarily disabling them, and then run the game. If it works smoothly while they are turned off, you've probably identified the problem.

Repair Files

A further option you can try is to see if any of the game files might have become corrupted. There are two main ways of doing this. If you are using Steam, you can try to verify the integrity of the game files as follows:

  • Load Steam.
  • From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
  • Select the Local files tab and click Verify integrity of game files...
  • This process then typically takes several minutes, so just sit and wait. Or, you know, do something else.

Alternatively, if you aren't using Steam, open the game launcher and go to Game Settings. Next, press Repair.

Your Last Resort

If you have tried everything we've already suggested, and are still staring into the black void, with a growing sense of despair, you really have two options left.

First, uninstall and then reinstall the game. And if that doesn't work, we'd suggest reaching out to the official Customer Support team by clicking the Contact Us button on the game's website.

We're hoping that this is a temporary issue that will quickly be resolved. And the steps we've outlined above are your best bet for overcoming this problem, without having to wait indefinitely for a fix from the developer.
