The recent reveal of Ramattra in Overwatch 2 has plenty of fans excited to take control of this new Tank-class hero in the game. But the announcement has not been without controversy, as Overwatch 2 fans have been left upset after it transpired that Ramattra would be hidden behind a Battle Pass.

With that being said, we'll let you know exactly what Ramattra offers, so you can then decide whether getting hold of a Battle Pass is worth it or not. Here's everything you need to know.

Ramattra Overwatch 2 Explained

Ramattra was revealed at the Overwatch League Grand Finals. You can see more in the following video:

The Omnic are a race of sentient robots. Ramattra was an Omnic war machine, who is determined to secure a better life for his people, by any means necessary. His ideals are similar to those of Zenyatta, a fellow Shambli monk.

The main difference between the two is that Zenyatta wants to secure the safety of the Omnics through diplomacy, while Ramattra believes that they must fight for their freedom.

Initially pursuing a path of peace, Ramattra realised that humanity will not allow the Omnics to coexist peacefully. As a result, he now leads the Null Sector, in order to fight for his people.

Release date

Ramattra will be released on December 6th 2022, at the start of the Season 2 Battle Pass. Further information will be revealed in the run-up to the release date.

Abilities

As we mentioned earlier, Ramattra is a Tank Hero in Overwatch 2. This means his primary role is to be on the front line, defending his teammates and obstructing opponents. Tanks, by definition, are able to take a lot of damage, and can make use of defensive shields to protect themselves and their team.

Interestingly though, Ramattra actually has the ability to change form. His Omnic form is a more traditionally defensive character. The Nemesis form sees Ramattra get much bigger, and can be used far more aggressively as a close-range puncher, to break through enemy lines and get to the more vulnerable support characters.

Ramattra starts with Health of 450. But in Nemesis form, he benefits from an additional 150 armour boost.

There is a lot still to be revealed, including exactly what his ultimate move will be. But there are plenty of rumours about some of his other abilities:

  • Staff/Fist - your mode of attack will likely vary depending on which form you are in. The omnic form will use a staff to deal damage. While Nemesis form - perhaps unsurprisingly - is all about the punches.
  • In Omnic form, Ramattra will be able to summon a barrier to protect agaonst attacks. While in Nemesis mode, he will make use of Defense.
  • Finally, there are rumours of an ability known as 'Large Slow' which will generate an energy field. Flying Heroes caught in this field will be unable to fly, and may potentially hold down enemies to stop them escaping to safety.

How to unlock Ramattra

This is where the heart of the controversy lies. As we said earlier Ramattra will become available when the Season 2 Battle Pass launches. But he will also only be immediately available to players who purchase the premium Battle Pass for $10.

Otherwise, in order to unlock Ramattra, players much reach level 55 in the regular Battle Pass. This is likely to take a considerable amount of grinding. Which is probably the point, as Blizzard seeks to 'encourage' players to pay for the premium Battle Pass.

Now that you have some insight into what Ramattra will offer in Overwatch 2, you can at least make a slightly more informed decision as to whether making that purchase will be wirth your money.
