How To Fix Lag In NBA 2K23

Lag and latency issues have been persistent problems for the NBA 2K series. The problem is the same across all platforms, but it’s especially noticeable on Xbox and PlayStation. Fortunately, there are ways to fix lag and latency issues in NBA 2K23.

Here are our top tips for how to stop lag from happening in NBA 2K23.

Check the system requirements

This one only applies to PC players. It may seem obvious, but it's important to make sure your system meets the minimum recommended specifications for the game. If you are trying to play using equipment that isn't powerful enough, then you're always going to run into issues.

The recommended PC specs for NBA 2K23 are as follows:

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 770 2GB/ ATI® Radeon™ R9 270 2GB or better

Check Server Status

It's also worth checking the official NBA 2K server status page, to see if there are any known issues with the server. If there are, this could explain why you are experiencing lag on NBA 2K23.

Sadly, however, if this is the case then there isn't a whole bunch you can do until the server issue is fixed. So just wait it out, then try again once the servers are back up and running.

Lower your graphics settings

Even if your device meets the minimum requirements for NBA 2K22, it may struggle to run the game at the highest settings. Consistent lag may be a result of your graphics setting being too high, so adjusting them downwards could alleviate some of these problems.

To do that, go to Feature > Advance Settings and lower all the Detail Level settings to low and turn off both Floor and Mirror Reflections. Then go to Video Settings and set it as follows.

  • Display Resolution: Native (Use the default monitor resolution)
  • Window Mode: Full Screen
  • Anti-aliasing Level: 4
  • Refresh Rate: Native (Use the monitor refresh rate)
  • Vertical Sync: Off
  • Dynamic Vertical Sync: Off

Terminate background apps

The more resource-hungry applications that you have running in the background, the more strain is put on your PC, which results in lag. To combat this, you need to terminate memory-intensive processes like Discord, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, etc. This can be done by using Task Manager.

Check your Internet connection

Lag and latency issues in NBA 2K23 are usually the result of slow Internet speeds, a weak wireless signal, a large amount of wireless interference, or slow response times from network devices. If you are experiencing latency issues while playing online, we recommend you do the following.

  • Perform a connection test and make sure both your upload and download speed is above 1.5 Mbps.
  • Restart your router.
  • Place the device, if possible, within 10 to 15 feet of the wireless router to improve the signal.
  • Turn off other devices that might be trying to compete for bandwidth to reduce traffic on your network.
  • Use a wired internet connection, if possible, to improve stability.
