Ever since the game was released back in 2020, people have been asking whether we will see Genshin Impact on Xbox. Its huge popularity has certainly given people hope that a console version of the game will become available.

While the game launched on PC, PS4, and mobile, the Xbox was sadly neglected. Now, a year or so later, what is the current state of play? Has an Xbox version been confirmed? Read on, to find out if Genshin Impact will come to Xbox.

Is Genshin Impact on Xbox

Previous interviews have not been encouraging. In October 2020 in an interview with IGN, a MiHoYo spokesperson stated that:

We currently don't have any plans for an Xbox version of the game.

Since then, a PlayStation 5 version has arrived, leaving Xbox users peering in through the window, and feeling a mixture of envy, self-pity, and rage. And here we are, over a year since that interview. And at the time of writing, Genshin Impact is still not on Xbox. But do we have any hope of this changing in the future? After all, there are probably around 50 million Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S owners out there. That's a potentially huge market to tap into.

Will Genshin Impact Come To Xbox One or Xbox Series X

As yet, there is nothing to suggest that MiHoYo have any plans to bring Genshin Impact to Xbox. The fact that the PS5 edition launched last Spring, with no mention whatsoever of an Xbox version being in development, was not encouraging.

And to compound this, MiHoYo has said nothing in the months since that would suggest there has been a change of policy on this. It isn't entirely clear why there are no plans for Genshin Impact on Microsoft's console. Speculation over the reasons why has included issues with optimising the game for the Xbox, or potential exclusivity arrangements with Sony. The latter would make a certain amount of sense, given that Sony-exclusive character Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn, has appeared in Genshin. But until we get a definitive statement, these are merely guesses.

Genshin Impact Xbox Release Date

At this point then, we don't have any indication of a release date for Genshin Impact on Xbox. But that doesn't mean that all hope is lost. The quote we mentioned above has a very important word in it: currently. This leaves the door ajar, for plans to potentially change in the future.

We don't know what might cause a change in policy. But we can make some guesses. If there is an exclusivity arrangement with Sony, then potentially once that has lapsed, things could change. Or perhaps MiHoYo is waiting to see how well the Xbox Series X|S sells, before deciding to commit time and resources to make a version for that console. At this point though, all we can do is wait.
