With Icarus having now taken flight on Steam, people have been asking whether the game can also be played on other platforms. We've already answered the question as far as Xbox is concerned. But how about an Icarus game PS4 version? We'll let you know exactly what the situation is. Here's everything you need to know about Icarus on the PlayStation. And if you were hoping to dress up as an Ancient Greek to wield your DualShock controller...best not get your hopes up too much.

Is Icarus on PlayStation?

At the time of writing, Icarus is sadly not available on PlayStation. At the moment, the game remains exclusively available on Windows PC, and the minimum spec requirements are as follows:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit versions)
  • Processor: Intel i5 8400
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB
  • DirectX: Version 11
  • Network: Broadband Internet connection
  • Storage: 70 GB available space

As things stand then, you aren't going to be able to play Icarus on PlayStation in the immediate future. Which makes sense in many ways. Creating a game for multiple platforms takes a lot of resources, so trying to make the best game they can for one platform is a perfectly reasonable approach. But is there any prospect of the game making the jump from PC to PS4 in the future?

Icarus Game PS4 Release Date

Rocketwerkz, the developers behind Icarus, are yet to mention any plans for creating a PlayStation version of the game. Whether things will change in the future, only time will tell. Or a press release. But at this stage, their focus appears to be very much on improving the performance of the game on PC, and preparing the next chapters of the game for release in the coming months.

That's where things stand at the moment. But if you have stumbled across this article in a moment of serendipity, what is Icarus all about? Is it a remake of the NES classic? No. Or a game where you have to craft a pair of wings, using nothing but pigeons and candles, and your Dad? Obviously, your Dad isn't going into the construction of the wings. He's there to help, before watching you fall to your death because of the arrogance of youth. As uplifting as that story is, it isn't that either.

What Is Icarus?

Icarus is described as a “session-based PvE survival game for up to eight co-op players”. The premise of the game is that humanity attempted to terraform a planet. Unfortunately, terraforming went wrong, creating a brutal environment that only a few brave prospectors are willing to explore.

Each session is time-limited, meaning you are given a small window to explore the planet and complete whatever mission you have decided to undertake. Before time runs out, you must return to your jump ship and escape back to orbit. Otherwise bad things happen. Specifically, your character loses all progress and tech that you may have already acquired.

You can play cooperatively with seven others to complete your goals. You also have the option of flying solo, but this makes the game even more challenging. If however, survival against a hostile world sounds like the sort of thing you may want to explore, then Icarus is available on PC. Whether it will ever be available on PS4, remains unknown.
