The Destiny 2 error code Marmot has been peeking its head up from below the ground. And rather than looking cute and foraging for nuts, this Marmot is out for blood. figuratively, obviously. Although that is a B movie waiting to be made.

In reality, though, this is a pretty serious error, that is preventing players from accessing Destiny 2. So what is it, and what can you do about the error code?

Below, you'll find everything you need to know about Destiny 2 error code Marmot, what causes it, and how to fix it so you can log in.

How To Fix Error Code Marmot On Destiny 2

While we are never happy to see an error code making life difficult for players, we can at least be grateful for the fact that this error has a clear cause, and therefore, a specific solution.

Marmot appears when the destiny 2 game files are corrupted. In order to resolve this, players need to fix the game files. How you go about this will vary slightly depending on which platform you are using to play. We'll take a look at each one in turn.

Steam

To repair the game files on Steam, complete the following steps:

  • From the Steam Launcher, right-click on the game from the Library and select Properties from the menu.
  • Select the Local files tab and click Verify integrity of game files...
  • Steam will then start to verify the game's files. This process may take several minutes, so don't be surprised if it isn't instantaneous.

If this doesn't resolve your issue, uninstall and then reinstall Destiny 2.

There are some additional steps you can take on Steam, should this not work:

  • Right-click on Destiny 2 in Steam's Library.
  • Select Properties > Local Files.
  • Select Browse and delete all of the files except for the packages folder.
  • Go back to Local Files for Destiny 2.
  • Select Verify Integrity of Game Files. The files may take a while to download.
  • Finally, restart Destiny 2 for the game to verify the game content.

If the issue continues, players may want to run chkdsk on their computer to correct any hard drive issues.

Epic Games

It's a very similar process if you are playing through the Epic Games Store, rather than Steam:

  • Start by navigating to Destiny 2 in your Library. Click on the three dots, or you can right-click the game icon.
  • Click Manage on the drop-down menu.
  • On the next page, click Verify.
  • Wait a few minutes for file verification to complete.

As with Steam, if this doesn't work, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the game.

Microsoft Store on PC

The final Pc option is the Microsoft Store. And, once again, the process is relatively simple:

  • Right-click on Destiny 2 in your Library.
  • Select Manage > Verify.
  • Restart Destiny 2 once the process has finished.

And, as above, if this doesn't work, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the game.

PlayStation

If you are playing on PS4 or PS5, the first thing to do is close the game, and clear the console cache. Bungie has a helpful guide on how to do this here.

Once you've done this, restart your console, then relaunch the game. If this doesn't work, then we're back to the old, uninstall then reinstall Destiny 2 fix.

Alternatively, you can put your console into Safe Mode and select Rebuild Database. Doing this will scan the drive and create a new database of all content on your system. It won't delete any files.

Xbox

For Xbox users, the process is very similar to PlayStation players. Start by clearing the console cache, restart your Xbox, then try relaunching the game.

If this doesn't work, try the following steps:

  • Press the Xbox button on your controller and go to Settings.
  • Go to Devices and Connections > Blu-Ray.
  • Select Persistent Storage.
  • Finally, click on Clear Persistent Storage.

Hopefully, these fixes will resolve your issue. If not, then we'd recommend contacting Bungie Customer Support for further assistance.
