If you're wondering how to add friends on Nintendo Switch, never fear! We've got everything you need to know right here.

To get more friends, sometimes you just need to know how. And in the case of Nintendo Switch at least, it can be a little more complicated than you'd like to make new ones.

Nintendo uses its own special Friend Code system to deal with the social aspects of the Switch, so you need to be able to navigate that to increase your friends list.

So, here is what you need to know to add friends on your Nintendo Switch...

How to add friends on Nintendo Switch

Adding friends isn't all that hard, it's just a matter of knowing where to look.

To find your Friend Code, first you need to select your Profile, by clicking on the picture on your avatar in the top-left corner of the Switch homepage.

Once you're in your profile, look at the right-hand side of the screen. The Friend Code starts with "SW". You can tell a friend your Switch code, or they can tell you yours - only one of you needs to do the actual adding.

When you've received the Friend Code of someone that you want to add on Switch, this is what you need to do:

  • Select your profile
  • Choose 'Add Friend'
  • Choose 'Search with Friend Code'
  • Enter the numerical part of their Friend Code
  • Click Send Request
  • Finally, hit OK

Now, your request is sent! The ball is in your friend's court now.

All your friend needs to do is this: go to their profile, click 'Add Friend', and then check their Friend Requests. They should see your friend request in there.

Other ways to add friends on Nintendo Switch

This isn't the only way you can add friends though. There is actually one much easier way to do it, as long as you meet a few requirements.

The first requirement is that you have either a Facebook or a Twitter account, or both. You then need to link your Switch to those accounts using the Switch itself.

Once you've done that, you'll be able to browse a list of everybody else that has done the same in your Facebook or Twitter friends-lists. If you find someone you want to make Switch-friends with, then you can just send them a request using that system instead.

This way is much easier than faffing around with Friend Codes, but you have to use Facebook or Twitter, so it's up to you whether or not that's worth it.
