If you're trying to discover the Hogwarts Legacy release date or anything else of note about the upcoming game from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, look no further. We'll cover this, and much more.
If you haven't already heard, Hogwarts Legacy is an upcoming open-world RPG set in the magical world of Harry Potter. There's plenty to cover about this much-anticipated game coming out in 2023. So let's dive into it.
Hogwarts Legacy release date
Hogwarts Legacy has actually been delayed quite dramatically, having been scheduled for release originally in 2021, before being delayed until 2022.
However, the release has been pushed back again, with the release date currently listed as February 10th 2023. Here is the detailed release date of Hogwarts Legacy on different platforms.
- PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC - February 10, 2023
- PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - April 4, 2023
- Nintendo Switch - July 25, 2023
WB Games has confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy will be on Steam Deck as well. You will be able to download and play the game on Valve's handheld PC on February 10, 2023.
The game is set in the 1800s, and you control a student at Hogwarts, who holds the key to an ancient secret. That secret threatens to tear the wizarding world apart. You can check out some gameplay footage in the video below:
Players will develop their magical abilities by mastering spells, harvesting plants and using them to brew potions. You will attend classes such as Defence against the Dark Arts, Herbology and Potions. Some of these will require you to complete minigames.
There's also a talent points system, which allows you to invest points into a variety of categories to enhance your abilities. This may be, for example, upgrades to spells or options to make them more powerful. You can focus on your favourite types of magic to best suit your playstyle.
You also have the opportunity to choose your house at the start of the game. So if you fancy yourself as a Hufflepuff - which let's be honest, no one wants to admit - now is your chance. There will be further customisation options for your character at the start of the game.
The character you control possesses an unusual ability to master Ancient Magic. And while there is no morality system in Hogwarts Legacy, players will get to decide how they use these talents - for good or ill.
There's plenty we already know in terms of where the game is set. Most obviously, as a student at Hogwarts, you'll be spending plenty of time within the castle itself.
We also know you'll spend time in the Forbidden Forest, as well as Hogsmeade Village and "the surrounding Overland area". We'd expect more locations for players to explore in addition to these.
Hogwarts Legacy Microtransactions
Micro-transactions are a major bone of contention in video games. In good news, however, it has been confirmed that there are no micro-transactions in Hogwarts Legacy.
Players who purchase the Standard Edition of the game will have the option of buying the Dark Arts Pack in-game. This pack is available at no extra cost to anyone who purchases the Deluxe Edition.
We also know that PlayStation players will have access to some exclusive content. The Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest is a PlayStation exclusive, and upon completion of the quest, players will have access to their own shop.
This shop will allow those players to sell gear and other items at enhanced rates compared to anywhere else in-game.
In addition, players who link their Harry Potter Fan Club account with their WB Games account will be able to import their house and wand into Hogwarts Legacy. Doing this will also unlock a Beaked Skull Mask, and a special set of house-themed robes.
Hogwarts Legacy Multiplayer
Hogwarts Legacy is a single-player game, so there will be no co-op play, or cross-play. There is no online play, and players will only need to go online in order to install a day one patch, if they have purchased a physical copy of the game.
There isn't too long left to wait now for Hogwarts Legacy to finally make its debut. And We'll be sure to continue updating this article as more information is revealed in the run-up to the launch.
