GTA Online Profile Migration: How Will Profile Migration Work on Xbox Series X|S And PS5?

After a lot of waiting, GTA V and GTA Online are finally scheduled to make their debuts on the new generation of consoles, as of March 15th. And one of the big questions fans are asking is about GTA Online Profile Migration. And it's a reasonable concern. After all, GTA Online has been a huge hit for Rockstar over the last eight years.

We're going to let you know exactly what's going on when it comes to GTA Online profile migration - how it works, and what you need to know when you want to do it. Let's get started.

How Will Profile Migration Work on Xbox Series X|S And PS5?

If you've been playing GTA Online for the last eight years, you may be concerned at the prospect of losing a lot of progress if you want to play on a new console. But Rockstar has confirmed that players can migrate their GTA Online character progress to PS5 or Xbox Series X|S.

Migration will become available from March 15th, and you can do this simply by loading the game on one of the new platforms. The migration will also ensure that you can take any characters, progression, stats, vehicles, properties, weapons, clothing, GTA$ and jobs with you.

One crucial point worth noting is that any GTA$ you've purchased can only be transferred between platforms of the same family. So from Ps4 to PS5, or Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S. If you decided to switch from Xbox to PlayStation, or vice versa, then you may lose out on those GTA$. Any GTA$ that you have earned in-game though, will transfer. It's up to you to decide how much of an issue this is. But what more will GTA Online offer? Let's take a look.

Additional Features of GTA Online for Xbox Series X|S And PS5

GTA Online has already received numerous updates in its life so far. But its arrival on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S brings some additional features. As well as the improved graphics and performance that you'd expect on new hardware, there are what are described as "quality of life improvements". This includes a new introduction and tutorial for the game. The main menu has also had a facelift, making it easier to go directly into the game mode you wish to play. Finally, and arguably most importantly, there will be new vehicles, and something called Hao's Special Works.

Hao's Special Works offer vehicle upgrades that are "best-in-class". It also brings a new class of races using modified vehicles, and a series of rotating time trials. Finally, something called Premium Test Ride means you can try out these newly modded vehicles for free.

GTA Online will also introduce a new Career Builder feature. This is primarily designed for new players but is also available for anyone who wants to start afresh. Using this will give players four million GTA$ to put towards your essentials - weapons, vehicles and properties.

It's also important to note that GTA Online will be available as a standalone title on Xbox Series X|S and PS5. And there's an added bonus if you are a PS5 owner. For the first three months from launch, you can download GTA Online and keep it for free. So that's nice. Xbox owners aren't quite so lucky. However, GTA V + GTA Online will be available to purchase from the Xbox Store at a 50% discount, until June 15th. Which is better than being asked to pay full price.
