Fire Emblem Engage difficulty settings - how to change difficulty level

If you are looking to change Fire Emblem Engage difficulty settings because you find the game too hard, you would be glad to know that there is a way to do this. Not very straightforward, though.

Fire Emblem Engage has Normal, Hard, and Maddening difficulties. At the start of the game, you have to choose which difficulty you want to play at. But, you can change it later if you are struggling to match with the enemies.

In this guide, we will guide you through the process of changing the difficulty setting in Fire Emblem Engage. Let's get right into it!

How to change Fire Emblem Engage difficulty settings

Unlike other games, there is no option to change the difficulty settings in the in-game settings in Fire Emblem Engage. You have to reach the end of Chapter 3, and unlock the Somniel to have the chance to change the Difficulty level.

Once you have reached Chapter 3, here is how you can change Fire Emblem Engage difficulty settings:

  • In the Somniel home base, head to your room and interact with your bed.
  • Select Difficulty Setting and choose from the options available.

Keep in mind that you can only decrease the Difficulty Level and not increase it. So think twice about the choice you make, because once you choose the right difficulty level, there will be no going back.

Different Fire Emblem Engage difficulty settings

As you are already aware, there are three difficulty levels or options in Fire Emblem Engage. Normal is for new and intermediate players, while Hard and Maddening are for skilful players who have played titles in the Fire Emblem series before.

By playing on normal difficulty, you can experience the story without being hindered by overly challenging gameplay mechanics. When you go up in difficulty, the number of enemies as well as their stats increases, making the battles harder.

In the Maddening difficulty, some enemies receive certain skills that they are tougher to beat and it also becomes more difficult to gain experience and level up. Also, you won't be able to save your progress during battles in this difficulty.
