How to experience the Halo Infinite grappling hook, right now, in Halo: Combat Evolved

Ever since gameplay-footage of 'Halo Infinite' was unveiled back in May, there's been plenty of talk about its graphics and 'Craig' the grunt.

However, one aspect that stood out in its gameplay was a grappling-hook. Reminiscent of 'Just Cause 2', you could attach Master Chief to a ledge or to an enemy, and attack a 'Grunt' in quick succession.

While we wait for its release in 'fall 2021', modders have been able to implement the grappling-hook into the PC version of Halo: CE.

Let's look into it, and how you can use it.

How Can You Use It?

Released last Thursday, it works across the original PC version of Halo: CE, not the recent 'Master Chief Collection.

By downloading the mod from here, you only need to follow the below instructions to have it installed.

Make sure that the game has the '1.10' patch installed, then do the following:

1. Move the maps and controls folders to your Halo installation directory and replace the files if asked.
2. To start the campaign you need to get an UI mod that adds the campaign option (Universal UI for example)
3. If you want to change the activation key, you will need to drop grappling_hook_key.lua to Documents\My Games\Halo CE\chimera\lua\global\ and edit the file with notepad.
4. If you want to use Chimera 1.0 and not the old build provided with this mod, you need to drop all of the files from "chimera 1.0 scripts" folder to Documents\My Games\Halo CE\chimera\lua\scripts\map\

Using the Grappling Hook

Once you load up the game, you only need to press 'Shift' and the grappling-hook will tether to anything you point it at; from dropships to random ledges.

Using it on the 'Assault on the Control Room' level certainly breaks the game, but jumping between the two bridges and also to a banshee towards the end is so much fun.

It's a shame that the 'Master Chief Collection' doesn't include an easy way to add mods such as these. Granted they'll never be allowed on a multiplayer mode, but to have it as another 'skull' would be fantastic.

In the meantime though, try the grappling hook, and you may find that you can't go back to vanilla-Halo once you try the mod.
