Elden Ring Crossplay: Is Elden Ring Cross Platform?

As you might expect from the team that brought us the Dark Souls games, there are times in Elden Ringwhen you are going to wish you had some help. But is Elden Ring crossplay? Is it possible for you to call upon the aid of your nearest and dearest gaming brethren, to help you through any particularly challenging patches?

Souls games have typically included some multiplayer elements. Things like messages written from other players, ghosts, or someone else's blood, spattered up a wall. But just how much of this has been transferred into Elden Ring? We'll lay out everything you need to know about crossplay and co-op play on Elden Ring. You never know when you might want some help, so understanding what you can and can't do might make your life a little bit easier.

Is Elden Ring Cross-Platform?

We'll cut to the chase: Elden Ring does not offer cross-platform play. This means that if you're playing on a PC, you will only be able to play alongside other PC players. Xbox players can play with other Xbox players, and PlayStation players can play with other PlayStation players. But a PC player won't be able to call upon their friend on a PS5 for assistance, for example.

It does, however, offer cross-gen support. So if, for example, you have a PS5 and your friend is on a PS4, you will still be able to play together. The same applies to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S owners.

Whether cross-platform is ever likely to come to Elden Ring is a question that remains unanswered at this point. However, games in the Souls series have not previously offered this functionality. Never say never of course, but we wouldn't recommend holding your breath.

Elden Ring Co-Op Mode and PvP Explained

Elden Ring does offer co-op gameplay, where you can invite, or be invited by others into a game. You can build a team of up to four players to tackle adventures. If you want to invite others to your game, you'll need to use something called the Furlcalling Finger Remedy, which can be found in the multiplayer menu.

On the other hand, in order to enter someone else's game, you need to the Tarnished Furled Finger. Both of these will reveal summoning signs on the floor, so you'll know who's available to get involved. You do also have the option of limiting who can join in by password protecting your game. By only sharing this with your friends, you'll know exactly who you're teaming up with.

PvP also lets you join another person's game, but this time as a foe, rather than a friend. There are two options to do this: the Bloody Finger, and the Duelist's Furled Finger.

The Bloody Finger lets you invade someone else's game and attack them. They won't get advance notice that you are on the way. The Duelist's Furled Finger is slightly more honourable. This creates a red symbol that tells other players you are interested in having a duel, and they can then decide whether or not to take you up on the challenge.

So there you have it. You can't benefit from cross-platform play on Elden Ring. But there are still plenty of ways you can interact with the online community, should you wish to do so.
