Dying Light 2 Save Issue: How To Fix Dying Light 2 Save Not Loading And Corrupted Save

Dying Light 2 has been eagerly awaited by fans of the original and is finally with us. Unfortunately, it's a game that comes with several bugs, and we aren't talking about a single texture not looking quite right. Players are encountering is the Dying Light 2 save issue, corrupting save files on all platforms.

For any players who are brave/foolhardy enough to try to tackle the game on day one, there is a good chance you may run into this particular problem. And if you do, it's important to know what your options are. That's what we'll be discussing today.

How To Fix Dying Light 2 Save Not Loading And Corrupted Save

The first thing to acknowledge is that Dying Light 2 comes with a number of issues, not just the problem regarding saved games. And with it being such a new game, guaranteed fixes are few and far between at this point. The only surefire remedy is to wait until Techland has released a patch to address the major problems with the game at launch. And hopefully, that patch will contain a fix for corrupted game files and saves that won't load.

With this being the case, for many players, you may be best off just waiting until that patch has been delivered before trying to play the game. But if you're determined to plough on regardless, is there anything you can do? Let's see.

Corrupted Save Files

Generally speaking, once a file is corrupted, it's very difficult, if not impossible, to recover the saved data. Check out this quote from the Techland support pages:

Unfortunately, there is no way to fix corrupted save data.

While this is in relation to the original Dying Light game, the same principle applies. But they do go on to make one further suggestion, which you can potentially try in Dying Light 2. This applies if you already have more than one save file with some progress in it:

In the game's menu, go to Play / Play Campaign, choose a NEW GAME save slot, press the Advanced key indicated below the chart and then choose a chapter from the story where you would like to continue the game from.

We emphasise that we can't guarantee this will work on Dying Light 2. But you have nothing to lose by trying it. And if you don't have another save file, or this doesn't work? You'll probably need to start over.

What About Saves That Won't Load?

Once again, there are no guarantees here. But there are definitely some general troubleshooting methods that might be of help. We will assume that the saved file is not corrupted.

  • Start by restarting your device, and trying to relaunch the game. It's simple, but it's surprising how often this fixes glitches. There's a reason it's become a cliché.
  • Minimise the number of other programs you have running at the same time, as these will divert resources away from the game.
  • This might seem obvious, but make sure you actually have enough space on your HDD to store the save file. Dying Light 2 is a vast game (with hundreds of hours of content to work through) which requires at least 60GB of storage just to install the game.
  • It's worth making sure that your computer meets the minimum system requirements for the game, in case this is a factor. If your PC can't cope, then there's not a lot we can do to help.

If you're struggling, it may be worth contacting Techland Support for advice. Also keep an eye on their Twitter feed @DyingLightGame as this will be one of the first places where you'll find out about any upcoming fixes or patches. They have already acknowledged some of the known issues in the game. And are clearly working very hard to try to address them as quickly as possible.

What Is The Dying Light 2 Save Issue?

Simply put, the save issue is one where players are unable to load a save file. In some instances, as we covered earlier, this might be because the save file has become corrupted. This may be if, for example, the game crashes before the save completes.

At this early stage in the life of the game, it's not entirely clear why this issue is happening. But the number of glitches and errors that have been identified certainly point to some pretty big issues that Techland needs to clear up, if Dying Light 2 is going to fulfil its potential. Let's hope those patches start coming through quickly.
