Dying Light 2 Co-Op Error: How To Fix Dying Light 2 Co-Op Not Working

One of the features of Dying Light 2 that players are most looking forward to is the co-op mode. The game is fully playable in co-op mode; any players who join a co-op session can bring with them all of their personal items, abilities, and progression. But what happens when you get a Dying Light 2 Co-Op Error?

That's the very urgent question we'll be dealing with today. After all, killing zombies is much more fun with friends. Here's what you need to know.

How To Fix Dying Light 2 Co-Op Not Working

Before we get going on potential fixes, there are a few ground rules around co-op on Dying Light 2, which are important to be aware of. First and foremost, the co-op mode isn't available immediately. All players need, as a minimum, to have completed the introduction and the tutorial, and the story called Markers of Plague. It's at this stage you can then start playing co-operatively.

Steps to Get Co-Op Working

There are a few different things you can try in order to resolve any co-op related issues:

  • Start by restarting the game. This will refresh the connection to the game servers, which may be enough all by itself to resolve the issue.
  • If not, then your next step is to check to see if there are any known issues with the servers. The official @DyingLightGame Twitter feed is a good place to start, as they will let you know if there are any problems. If there is an error with the servers? Well, there isn't a whole lot you can do about that, other than wait for it to be resolved.
  • You could consider using a VPN to see if connecting with a server in a different region makes a difference. And in reverse, if you currently use a VPN, try disconnecting it, to see whether connecting to your closest server fixes the problem.
  • Should this fail to resolve the problem, it's probably time to take a look at your own internet connection. Run through the basics: test another app or device. Make sure you don't have lots of bandwidth heavy apps on the go at the same time. And also consider restarting your router.
  • If you are on WiFi, switching to a wired connection will usually result in improved stability.
  • There are suggestions that this error may only be fixed by a patch from the game developers. So keep a close eye out for any pending game updates, and install them as soon as you can.

If none of the fixes works, then it's probably time to reach out to the game developers for support. You can contact them via Twitter on the link we mentioned above. Or you can go to their support website to submit a support ticket.

Dying Light 2 Kicked From Co-Op

If you've managed to start up a co-op game, but you've been kicked out, then you're potentially facing a slightly different issue. This is more likely to be an issue with the network connection. Many of the fixes we've outlined above will, however, also apply here.

Checking the servers for issues, and making sure your internet connection is stable, are by far the most important steps you can take. Once again, a server issue (for example, heavy traffic) is not something you can fix. But playing at off-peak times, or simply waiting for traffic to ease, are both options to consider. A VPN might also be a solution as well.

Alternatively, if the issue is with your internet connection, then run through the steps we mentioned above. If you're on Wi-Fi, then you may want to try a wired connection, as this will usually provide a more stable connection, and reduce the risk of you being disconnected.

What Is The Dying Light 2 Co-Op Error?

When players are trying to start a co-op game with their friends, they are receiving a message that says "Network Disconnected Error". At this stage, it's difficult to say exactly what's behind the Dying Light 2 Co-Op Error. But experience suggests a few common reasons for this sort of issue to arise.

Given the online nature of co-operative gameplay, there is a pretty strong chance that server problems will be behind this. This has been more or less confirmed by Techland. Lead designer Tymon Smektała stated on Twitter that:

issues come from crazy demand; we’re fixing on our side and discussing with partners (epic/ms/Sony) so they unclog servers

If this is the case, unfortunately, there is little you can do other than wait for a fix. Server problems can also be seen more commonly when a game has just been released, and demand on the servers is at its greatest. In this scenario, it tends to be a short-lived issue. Once hype has died down a little and traffic stabilises, the load on the servers tends to even out. At the time of writing, there is no ETA on when the co-op issues will be resolved. But we do know they are being dealt with as a priority.

In some cases, there may be something more fundamental at work, that would only be fixed via a later update. If that is the case, then keep an eye out for future game updates, and install them as soon as you can. Otherwise, try the solutions we've outlined above, and hope for the best. In most cases, these fixes will be all you need.
