With the popularity of the Arma series, it's inevitable that people are asking whether they can enjoy Arma Reforger crossplay. Historically, the Arma series has only been available on PC. But have things changed with the latest release? And if so, is crossplay available?

These are all good questions, and we'll answer them as coherently as possible.

Is Arma Reforger Crossplay?

We'll start with the fundamentals. Arma Reforger is currently available on PC and Xbox. It is not, however, available on other platforms, such as PlayStation or Nintendo Switch.

Now, given that many PCs use the same Microsoft platform as the Xbox, it might feel like crossplay functionality between PC and Xbox would be a given. So it may be disappointing to learn that in fact, crossplay is not currently available for Arma Reforger.

It's unclear why this is, but one possible reason for this is that the game enables players to make mods. As a result, this could cause numerous problems if the two platforms tried to communicate.

But that doesn't necessarily mean that crossplay will never be available. It's worth remembering that Arma Reforger is still in its early access phase, where the developers are continuing to improve and refine the experience for players. It's possible that at some point in the future, they will be able to make crossplay available.

What Does Crossplay actually mean?

It's also worth taking a moment to understand exactly what crossplay means, and how it differs from cross-platform and cross-save.

As you may have suspected, crossplay basically means that you have the ability to play alongside others even if they are using a different console. Think Xbox players alongside PlayStation gamers, for example.

Cross-platform, meanwhile, is when a game is available on more than one platform. It is often used interchangeably with crossplay, so it's easy to confuse the two. But think of a game like, say, FIFA, which is released on multiple platforms. Arma Reforger itself, by virtue of being available on Xbox and PC, is also technically a cross-platform game.

Finally, cross-save is where a game allows a player to save their progress on one platform, and then pick up from where they left off on a different platform. So for example, you might save your game on your Xbox, before booting it up on your laptop and loading it from the exact point you left it. You may also hear this described as cross-platform progression.

Interestingly, cross-save support is available for Arma Reforger. As long as you use the same account, you can access your game from Xbox or PC. This means that whichever platform you are using, you can still enjoy the same character that you were using on the other platform.

So there you have it. Arma Reforger does not support crossplay at the moment. But in the future, anything is possible.
