If you used to play Fortnite on any Apple device, chances are you were aware of the - ahem - disagreement, between the two companies. Despite the ugly dispute, Fortnite was suddenly unavailable to millions of players. However, Epic has announced a deal with NVIDIA's GeForce Now service, which may allow Apple users to return to the world they once loved and cherished. We say may, because there are a couple of hurdles you need to jump through first. Here's everything you need to know about Fortnite on GeForce Now.

How To Play Fortnite Mobile On iPhone

We'll start by saying straight off, that this does not mean Fortnite has suddenly made a triumphant return to the app store. Apple and Epic are still not friends. However, the deal that Epic has done with NVIDIA represents something of a 'backdoor'. We'll explain.

GeForce Now is a cloud gaming subscription service offered by NVIDIA. By using GeForce Now, gamers will be able to stream Fortnite to their iOS mobile devices using Safari. A similar scenario is available on Android, using the GeForce Now app from the Google Play store. So anyone who uses an iPhone or iPad, for example, will still be able to play Fortnite on those devices. It just means you need a GeForce Now subscription. But before you rush out to get that subscription, there are a couple of things you need to know.

Initially, at least, Fortnite is only available through a limited-time closed beta, which starts in the second half of January 2022. The beta will test server capacity, graphics delivery, and touch control performance. It's worth noting that this is different to the desktop version of Fortnite, which is already available on GeForce Now. NVIDIA has also confirmed that players will be admitted in batches over the coming weeks.

In order to try and joint the beta test, you need to complete the following steps:

  • Login or create an NVIDIA account
  • Join the waitlist by completing the registration form.
  • You also need to sign up for a GeForce Now membership.

This will add you to the closed beta waiting list. And there is no guarantee you will be successfully chosen to participate. So do bear that in mind. A paid subscription to GeForce Now is not required, and there is no indication that this earns you any preferential treatment. In fact, Nvidia says that either membership allows an equal chance at the closed beta. Sign-ups opened on January 13th.

If you are lucky, you will be one of the chosen few to start playing Fortnite on GeForce Now. As it will be a beta on a streaming platform, you may not get exactly the same experience as you would when downloading the game. You can help this by making sure your internet connection is as good as possible. But the mere fact that Fortnite might, after all this time, be available to play on iOS, is reason enough for some excitement.
