PS5 and Xbox Series X games: confirmed exclusive titles

As we await the launches of both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X, we can start to fantasise about playing new games on these fresh machines.

We’re months away from both consoles launching, but we’re not anywhere close to learning about the full table of launch titles yet. As the battle of PS5 versus Xbox Series X starts to heat up, perhaps we might see a State of Play or an Xbox Stream focused on software soon.

But in the meantime, here are the games we know of so far that are on their way...

Gears 5 Enhanced

It’s the Gears 5 you know, but enhanced for Series X. This was mainly shown as a demonstration last week to give people an idea of how a game from a previous generation could run, and it looked beautiful. Time will tell if there’s also a Gears 6 arriving at launch, but having ‘Enhanced’ out instead would be a great way to introduce new players to the franchise.

Halo Infinite

The first game announced for the console, this one is set to launch alongside the console towards the end of the year. We know from the trailers that it involves Master Chief, and possibly a Halo, but that’s about it. The graphics look nice, though, and the game will also be available on Xbox One.

It also seems safe to assume that recent Xbox One exclusives like Ori And The Will Of The Wisps will also be playable on Xbox Series X.

Confirmed PS5 games

Godfall

Announced through a trailer last December, it’s an action-role playing game where you’re an exiled ‘Knight’s Order’, ready to take on different realms of elements. You can also play as three different character classics, with a ‘drop in, drop out’ multiplayer mode as well. Not much else is known about Godfall as yet, but it seems a certainty that more will be learned about it soon.

Quantum Error

It's a sci-fi first-person shooter with horror vibes, currently in development by TeamKill Media for the PS5 and PS4.

You can also safely predict late-in-the-day PS4 exclusives like The Last Of Us Part 2 to make the jump onto next-gen consoles.

Confirmed games for both next-gen consoles

The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum

From the Hamburg-based developers at Daedalic Entertainment comes a next-gen reimagining of the iconic LOTR saga, told from the sneaky perspective of Gollum.

Gothic

This was a surprise announcement to many, as it's a remake to the first game from eighteen years ago. First appearing as a ‘test demo’ on Steam in December, THQ Nordic decided to go ahead full-steam with a remake for PC and next-gen consoles. There’s been no date set for this, so perhaps it's a 2021 release.

Outriders

Developed by People Can Fly, it’s scheduled for release in ‘Holiday 2020’ (the exact same ETA as the next-gen consoles). This game is a sci-fi shooter set on a dangerous world that mankind has tried and failed to conquer. You'll be battling monsters and human weirdos with a squad of superpowered soldiers.

You can also expect the last big current-gen games, like Watch Dogs Legion and Cyberpunk 2077, to transition onto Xbox Series X and PS5 - perhaps with some next-gen enhancements.
