Hero shooters live and die by their rosters, but Marvel Rivals is in a great spot to deliver one of the absolute best. With a long history of exciting characters, both iconic and underrated, NetEase Games' Overwatch-style shooter needs some interesting and dynamic heroes and villains to survive in the long run, and we've got a few ideas.

While the Marvel Rivals release date hasn't been set just yet, we think that Rivals could take some of Overwatch's audience away, including us. And while the Marvel Rivals characters list is already packed with some iconic faces, there's some additions we'd love to see in the near future.

Thanos

First up, the Mad Titan himself. Thanos has become an A-Tier villain in recent memory, with the likes of the MCU, especially Infinity War and Endgame, taking the antagonist to new heights. However, with his gauntlet powered by Infinity Stones, we think Thanos could make for an excellent character in Rivals.

With each Infinity Stone holding a powerful ability, Thanos' set of abilities could make for an interesting jack-of-all-trades character. For example, the Reality Stone could quickly change parts of the map to disrupt the enemy team, the Soul Stone could take an enemy's soul away (which means their abilities could be stopped for some time), or the Space Stone could teleport you to a nearby ally.

These Infinity Stones sound powerful, but Thanos could be limited in both cooldown and by needing to switch between the Infinity Stones on the fly. While the Mad Titan's huge strength would require him to be a Tank-style character, he could be limited to his fists or signature double-ended blade, potentially making him weak to mid and long-range enemies.

Venom

Secondly, everyone's favourite symbiote, Venom. Spider-Man's iconic villain-turned-anti-hero holds a lot of similarities to the wall-crawler, but Venom's sheer strength and symbiotic nature could make for an interesting Tank too.

Venom could use the symbiote to trap enemy players to the ground, making them accessible for attacks. Or potentially, use the symbiote to form a physical shield, which would stop incoming and outgoing damage, while also halting both teams from passing it. You could also use the symbiote's tendrils to swing across minor distances, passing over enemy players and attempting to get some shots from behind.

Mister Negative

This one is a strange, but fitting possible addition - Mister Negative. Martin Li shot to fame thanks to Insomniac Games' Spider-Man games, but we think he'd fit Marvel Rivals quite well as a support or assault type role.

His ability to control people could be useful, by letting him grab enemies and force the enemy into an AI that attacks their teammates. His healing touch could be used to heal himself or allies, and his weapon could be his sword that can be charged with negative energy, releasing a ranged slash that damages any foes in its path.

Armor

Now for a hero, finally (sorry, villains just have the coolest powers), Armor could be a great Tank/Support role. Her ability to create psionic body armor would protect her from enemy attacks, while slowing her movement speed down, but she can quickly switch between these functions on the fly, to keep things fair.

She could create blasts of energy as her primary fire, while also creating a huge concussive blast that knocks enemies back or off the map to their deaths.

Those are just some interesting ideas for potential characters, but with how many heroes and villains exist in Marvel's history, there's plenty of options. However, we believe that interesting characters and abilities like the ones above will help differentiate the game from Overwatch.

In Marvel Rivals news, some leaks suggest you won't need to pay for Marvel Rivals heroes, but you really should.
