EGX Rezzed Digital will bring the beloved indie expo online

With Coronavirus (aka COVID-19) causing countless events to be cancelled around the globe, there's a gap in the gaming industry right now where all the fun expos should be. But here's some much-needed good news: ReedPOP's indie gaming showcase, EGX Rezzed, has found new life as an online get-together called EGX Rezzed Digital.

When E3 2020 was cancelled, we wondered what a digital gathering might look like for the gaming industry, and now EGX Rezzed Digital is going to make such ideas a reality. This online event will replace the London-based EGX Rezzed that was meant to be happening this month.

Running from 26th March to 28th March, the first ever EGX Rezzed Digital will bring together "content from the likes of Eurogamer, RockPaperShotgun, OutsideXbox, Jesse Cox, Dicebreaker and more," according to the official press release.

The announcement notes: "Rezzed Digital will give fans direct access to an amazing showcase from their favourite creators, including lets plays, incredible developer interviews, and career panels, all from the comfort of their homes by accessing the Rezzed website, which will go live at 10am GMT tomorrow!"

Basically, it sounds like EGX Rezzed Digital will allow fans at home to watch live-streams of the presentations and panels that would have been happening on-stage at Rezzed. The only elements missing from the real-life Rezzed experience are the playable demos and the long queues for food, and we'll miss one of those things a lot more than the other.

Gamers that are keen to watch along at home are encouraged to keep their eyes peeled on the EGX Twitter feed and the Rezzed website (which, as noted above, will get a big update at 10am on Thursday 26th March).

David Lilley, ReedPOP's UK Head of Events, offered this statement: “Rezzed: Digital is our way of shining a light on and celebrating some of the incredible games and gaming content that was planned to be showcased this weekend at EGX Rezzed. We’ve worked with many friends and partners to bring together what we believe is a great line-up and we welcome anyone who would like to join us over the next 3 days and enjoy a little taste of Rezzed from the comfort and safety of their homes.”

The physical version of EGX Rezzed has been postponed from its usual March slot, and it is currently slated to take place on 2-4 July 2020 at Tobacco Dock in London.

In the meantime, Rezzed: Digital should tide us over nicely. It will give us something to do instead of playing Animal Crossing, anyway.
