Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse delayed after Morbius flop

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been delayed, to the disappointment of Miles Morales and Miguel O’Hara fans everywhere. While fans were hoping to take a dip Into the Spider-Verse again this October, it looks like the wait has been massively extended. But why was the movie delayed?

When Is Across The Spider-Verse Coming Out?

Confirmed by the official Spider-Verse Twitter account, Marvel fans will have to wait until June 2, 2023 to venture Across the Spider-Verse. It's a considerable delay, similar to the one that Venom: Let There Be Carnage experienced in early 2021.

Additionally, the sequel to the Spider-Verse sequel, Across the Spider-Verse Part II has also been delayed. This means that the movie will instead come out on March 29, 2024. This leads us to believe so that we’re going to get a massive cliffhanger next year.

Admittedly, a cliffhanger isn’t always an ideal way to end your movie but fans were willing to wait after Infinity War so they should do be willing to do so again for Miles Morales and his Ultimate friends. Furthermore, cliffhangers at least provide us with a resolution to look forward to.

Why Has The Delay Upset Many Spider-Fans?

It’s not yet clear why the Spider-Verse sequel was delayed. While it is fun to blame Morbius for the delay — and for existing in the first place — animators may just need more time to make the sequel just as beautiful as the first movie. However, it is curious that the delay comes right after Morbius failed to entice cinemagoers.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, is the best superhero movie ever made. While that might sound like hyperbole to some, no other live-action film in the genre has been able to capture the zany energy and emotional heart of superhero comics the way the first Spider-Verse movie has.

It’s also one of the few animated movies to beat Disney in the Best Animation category during the 2019 Oscars. Granted, to some, that doesn’t mean much, but Spider-Verse's worldwide critical acclaim has led many to see it as a beacon of what superhero movies can be. If we have to wait longer to see another movie of that quality, then that's fine with us.

So, to recap, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part I is now coming out on June 2, 2023. Across the Spider-Verse, Part II will be released on March 29, 2024. Morbius sucks and no one should watch it.
