It’s been 10 years since the Superman origin show Smallville finished. In the decade since, fans have clamoured for a continuation of the TV show. While the franchise did receive a comic book Season 11 and a cameo in Crisis on Infinite Earths, there has yet to be a true sequel.
However, the Smallville sequel fans have been craving might finally be on the way. After a decade of waiting, it would appear that the continuation of Clark Kent's transformation into Superman isn't that far away.
Tom Welling announces Smallville plans
In a video on Cameo, Smallville lead actor Tom Welling revealed that they're attempting to bring the show back. However, the planned continuation of the story won't be the same mid-budget live-action romp. Instead, it'll be animated.
During the cameo, Welling was wishing two single fathers a happy Father’s Day. In the heartfelt video, the actor apologised for delivering the video late. The actor also expressed his condolences towards the customers' passed grandfather.
“Michael Rosembaum and I are actually working on an animated series to bring those characters back to life and use as many of the original cast members as possible. Don't tell anybody though, it's a secret. We're still working on it.”
What cast members won't be returning?
Most of the original Smallville cast will likely be up for returning for an animated show. Tom Welling, Michael Rosembaum and Erica Durance will all likely end up returning in the future. However, there's one actor that definitely won't be returning: Allison Mack.
In the show, Mack played main character Chloe Sullivan, Clark Kent’s best friend. Unfortunately, the actress became the leader of an illegal sex cult NXVIM in the years after. She is currently awaiting sentencing for her crimes.
