Star Trek: Picard was certainly a mixed bag for fans of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Mostly capitalising on fan adoration for the second Trek show, the show was more concerned with bringing back old characters like Picard and Data.

For the second season, Picard will be bringing back even more characters from The Next Generation. Whoopie Goldberg's Guinan, John de Lancie's Q and Brent Spiner's Data will all be coming back. In fact, the last two will be sharing a scene together.

Q and Data will be in a scene together

Reported by Giant Freaking Robot, John de Lancie revealed that he was on set with Brent Spiner's Data. Revealed through multiple videos on Cameo, the actor revealed that he has been on set with Bent Spiner for Picard Season 2. Considering Spiner has yet to direct a TV episode, the actor will likely be revising his role.

“I am back into the Star Trek Universe,” de Lancie said. “I am doing Picard right now with – of all people – Mr. Picard. So, that’s been great fun. It’s been great fun to see Patrick, to see Brent [Spiner], and to see Jonathan [Frakes]. I am going to be working with Jonathan coming up here in a couple of weeks. So, it’s great fun.”

Considering Data is the most beloved character in Star Trek: The Next Generation, it wouldn't be surprising to see his return. Despite his character being killed, the android is essentially the series' version of Spock. As such, he's obviously the fan favourite.

How is he coming back?

Star Trek: Picard saw the titular Jean-Luc constantly ponder over the death of his android companion in Star Trek: Nemesis. While the Android’s consciousness was transferred into B-4, Picard revealed that the character couldn't survive. The android was revived in the first season of Picard, but was killed in the finale. It’s not known how the character will return for the show's second season.

Perhaps time travel will be explored, but then that would require a younger looking Brent Spiner. Most likely, the character will just be reintroduced for the sake of it. It wouldn't be the first time.
