Another movie release, another review bomb sequence from angry internet trolls. After the horrendous bashing of Ms Marvel for “wokeness” — aka having a Muslim protagonist — the same crowd is back to rip on Pixar’s Lightyear.
The story of the astronaut that would inspire the Buzz Lightyear toy in the Toy Story universe, Lightyear follows a straight, white man played by Captain America actor Chris Evans. However, as the movie features a single gay couple, it’s now deemed as “woke”.
Lightyear review bombs
At the time of writing, Pixar’s Lightyear is sitting at a mediocre 4.7/10 stars in IMDB, the new go-to for review bombing. This is because it’s the only outlet that still allows reviews to be published ahead of a film’s release date.
In the negative reviews, the same sentiment as usual from the intolerant crowd can be seen. Reviews complain about Chris Evans as Lightyear — even though he’s not playing the toy, but instead the real person — and, of course, the “woke agenda”.
One review claims that the “woke stuff” is disappointing. They claim: “This is a children's movie so why include anything like what you have in this movie is beyond me. Very unnecessary. Wish it would have been better but welcome to 2022. The future sucks just like Disney.“ God, they’re sad.
Another claims that there’s “no reason to include lesbians kissing except to influence children” and that it’s “their parents job to introduce such things at the appropriate time, not Disney's”. This is despite the fact that straight kissing is present in the vast majority of Disney movies. In one movie, a woman even kisses a frog!
Other reviews claim the movie is “political propaganda” and that the two-second lesbian kiss made them “cringed just like all the parents out there that don't want their kids to see it.” Another even claims that “Cancel Culture” struck to replace Tim Allen’s voice, despite the fact that Disney is working with him on a Santa Clause reboot for Disney Plus.

What does Captain America think of all this?
Of course, as Lightyear features a lesbian side character, backlash from the repetitive, zombie horde of right-wing moaners was expected. With the first wave of backlash coming out, Reuters asked Evans what he thinks of the situation.
Simply put, the beloved Marvel actor believes that people fighting against positive LGBT representation are “idiots”. If Captain America thinks you’re an idiot, then that’s got to hurt.
"The real truth is those people are idiots," Evans told Reuters. "Every time there’s been social advancement as we wake up, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth and that’s what makes us good.”
Evans explained that the anti-woke group is a bunch of old “dinosaurs”, and when they die off we’ll be in a better place.
"There's always going to be people who are afraid and unaware and trying to hold on to what was before. But those people die off like dinosaurs. I think the goal is to pay them no mind, march forward and embrace the growth that makes us human."
And that’s why Chris Evans is Captain America.
