Ever since Disney revealed The Book of Boba Fett at the end of The Mandalorian Season 2, fans have wondered how the spin-off will tie into the main series. Disney has been remarkably tight-lipped regarding the upcoming series to the point where fans don't quite know when it's set.
The Star Wars timeline is a precious thing for hardcore fans of the canon. With The Mandalorian Season 3 confirmed, fans have wondered if The Book of Boba Fett will be set before or after the third season. After all, the Star Wars universe is known for exploring different time periods in different shows.
Well, it would appear that we know have our answer.
The Book of Boba Fett is The Mandalorian 2.5
In a report by Collider, it was stated that sources working on the Boba Fett spin-off refer to the project as “The Mandalorian Season 2.5”. Not only is the show confirmed by these sources to be set between Season 2 and 3, but there’s also many recurring characters.
Of course, the show features Boba Fett and sidekick Fennec Shand. However, previous reports have claimed that the titular Mandalorian Din Djarin will also make an appearance. Furthermore, fan-favourite character Grogu (Baby Yoda) is rumoured to have a cameo.
There aren't many details surrounding how the spin-off will, if at all, further the ongoing Mandalorian plot. From the small glimpse we've seen of the series, it appears to be a personal tale for Boba Fett. Then again, nothing stays small-scale for long in the Star Wars universe.
When will the show release?
The Book of Boba Fett has just wrapped production on Disney's Los Angeles studio. Disney has scheduled the show for release at the end of this year, presumably in November or December. Unlike The Mandalorian, this will be a short miniseries at reportedly just four episodes.
After the spin-off show, the next Star Wars release is Ewan McGregor’s long-awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
