James Gunn calls out ‘bulls**t’ Guardians of the Galaxy 3 scam

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to be James Gunn’s swansong with the MCU, with many fans looking forward to the ragtag group’s final adventure. However, some companies are trying to take advantage of that excitement, creating rumours about the project.

Earlier this week, Gunn was forced to step in to debunk a particularly unfortunate rumor that led to a lot of fan excitement.

James Gunn debunks fake casting call

Earlier this week, a company called Nine9dotcom announced a casting call for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. As with any MCU project, thousands of fans flocked for the chance to star in the Marvel movie.

Once he was made aware of the situation, Gunn took to Twitter to debunk the casting call. In the Tweet, he confirms that Guardians 3 had finished shooting a month ago and calls Nine9dotcom disgusting.

"Okay this is disgusting. People should beware of companies like @Nine9dotCOM, ripping off people & taking advantage of their dreams,” Gun tweeted. “Once again, this casting call is bullshit: we finished shooting a month ago."

Now that the horrendous company has been called out, we hope no one else falls victim to any scams involving Guardians 3. Thankfully, now that we know Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has finished shooting, that should stop anyone from falling for these tricks. We hope this is just an isolated case but there are truly some messed up people out there.

How much damage was done

While most fans now know that Nine9dotcom are scam artists, there were some unfortunate fans who fell for the Guardians 3 casting call. One aspiring actor on Twitter detailed how the company demanded money from them through monthly Zoom calls. It’s a truly deplorable act and seeing people get hurt because of this is depressing.

"Even worse they're hosting regular mass zoom calls to get people to pay them 99$ plus monthly service fees to have opportunities for GoTG,” writes Twitter user @words_nik. “They're getting people to pay live while pressuring people on the call who aren't sending in payments."

This led to Gunn releasing one more retort towards the despicable company. Gunn said this on Twitter: "Nine9dotCOM Maybe you con artists shouldn’t be the ones talking about 'good relationships' with directors."

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be coming to theaters on May 5, 2023. Aside from his Marvel work, Gunn also has several DC projects like The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, the latter of which was greenlit for a second season.
