Disney+ under fire by parents protest group over R-rated content

Disney’s flagship streaming service Disney+ was originally released with the promise that it will be a service for families. Every show and film on the service was expected to be family friendly. However, that promise was quickly eradicated.

We’re not two years into Disney+, and the service now has some very not family-friendly content. For example, Logan, Deadpool and the Marvel Netflix shows are all on the service, if you choose to enable adult content. Nevertheless, this adult content is infuriating some lame-o parents.

Parents Television and Media Council protest Disney+

Via The Direct, parents protest group, Parents Television and Media Council, have taken the fight to Disney. In a move straight out of 90s Lieberman politics, the group has complained about the violence on modern media services.

PTC president Tim Winter discussed Disney’s prior promise of being family friendly only. The PTC leader claimed that the service has decided to take the promise and “flush it all down the toilet”.

Winter takes issue with the introduction of R-rated content on the service. Despite the fact that individuals have to enable mature content and that there are strong privacy methods in place, this decision allegedly “violates” families.

“The mere presence of R-rated and TV-MA rated content violates the trust and sensibilities of families,” Winter said.

Nobody will forget this

In his argument, Winter argues that Disney’s transgression of its original promise will not go unremembered. Winter claims that this move will be studied for the rest of time. He claimed:

“One day in the no-too-distant future, business schools will point back to this abrupt corporate U-turn as they analyze what happened to the once-great Walt Disney Company. And in the meantime, families will continue to be woefully underserved by Hollywood.”

In classic “protect the children” hyperbole, Winter’s suggestion that lockable mature content will negatively affect kids is insane. After all, in America at least, there are far more pressing issues at hand, like gun control?

More mature content on the way

It would look like Winter’s wishes for Disney+ to remain family friendly won’t be happening, a shame for him. Instead, the streaming service will be getting more mature content to make it better for everyone other than Winter.

In the coming years, Marvel Zombies will be releasing as a mature animated MCU show. There will be blood, guts and more; take that, Winter.

Essentially, Disney+ will work the same way as every other streaming service. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. If you’re scared of your kids watching something they shouldn’t, use parental controls or, maybe, actually parent your child.
