Out of all the upcoming MCU movies coming out Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the one fans have the most questions about. While we know the focus will be on Shuri, T’Challa’s younger sister played by Letitia Wright, we’re all wondering how they will address the passing of Chadwick Boseman. Danai Gurira, who plays Okoye, says the film is going to be “all about” the late actor, which is comforting to know.

As most of us know, Boseman was taken from us way too soon after a lengthy bout with colon cancer. It’s going to be difficult watching a new Black Panther movie without him but knowing that the sequel will be paying tribute to the actor is great news to many.

Danai Gurira talks Black Panther 2 without Chadwick Boseman

Gurira didn’t mince words on how difficult it was to film Wakanda Forever without Boseman. Without getting into spoiler territory, Gurira told Variety that the sequel is going to tell a very “gutwrenching story.”

“Listen, we poured everything we had into it, and we hope that you experience that and that it resonates for everybody the way it does for us. It tells a very heartwrenching story, and that is all I can say."

Regarding the Chadwick Boseman tribute, Gurira says that the story is going to be “all about him,” promising that it will be lovely and respectful. She goes on to praise director Ryan Coogler for tastefully handling the subject matter.

"I think beautifully, and I’m very thankful for how our amazing director/writer handled that. It’s all about him, and for all of us, it’s all an outpouring to love and to honor him."

A new Black Panther?

We’re all expecting Shuri to inherit the Black Panther mantle from her brother since she briefly adopted the identity in the comics. It’s still depressing that we’re going to have an MCU without Chadwick Boseman’s amazing portrayal as T’Challa but as long as they honor his memory, he will never be forgotten.

Right now, it’s not yet known if we will get a Black Panther 3 down the line. There is a Wakanda Disney+ series that is being worked on by Black Panther director Ryan Coogler but anything after that hasn’t been discussed. If they do, it will be interesting to see how Letitia Wright’s Shuri handles the Black Panther mantle.
