CD Projekt Red's two huge games, The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, exist in different universes and genres, but that hasn't stopped a number of Easter Eggs linking the two titles together.
Today, the internet is awash with excitement over a newly-unearthed nod to The Witcher 3's Ciri within Cyberpunk 2077. It's actually the second reference to her that fans have found in the new game.
Of course, this is a huge cause of excitement for fans, some of whom have been meshing together the worlds of The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 for years now. The popular 'Cyberpunk Ciri' image which we've used in the header for this article, for example, seems to have first been posted on Bomyman's Deviant Art page over two years ago.
Keep on reading, then, and we'll tell you all about the seemingly-official Ciri Easter eggs which have been found in Cyberpunk 2077...
What's the new Ciri reference in Cyberpunk 2077?
Believe it or not, the Ciri reference which fans are rejoicing about right now is a bird. First spotted by the folks over at Nintendo Smash, this winged creature appears to be a deep cut reference to Ciri.
How so, you ask? Well, The Witcher 3 fans with good memories may recall that Ciri is routinely associated with a bird called the barn swallow. The name of Ciri's sword, Zireael, literally means 'swallow' (when you translate the ancient 'Elder Speech' language into English) and there's also a swallow engraved on the sword's hilt.
The barn swallow in Cyberpunk 2077 can be seen in one of the final scenes of the game, looking in at the player through the window of a car (before flying off).
And given that there aren't any other birds in the game (there's even lore to be found that says birds were wiped out years prior due to disease), this does seem like a deliberate nod for The Witcher fans to pick up on.
What was the previous Ciri Easter Egg in Cyberpunk 2077?
The previous Ciri Easter Egg in Cyberpunk 2077 was spotted back in December, with a Twitter user called @SaxOps1 posting the above image on Twitter.
A lot less subtle than a bird perched on a car, this Easter egg was a 'Retro Gaming' magazine cover with Ciri on the cover. It was still pretty hard to find, though, buried in a drawer under a cognitive booster.
If you look a little closer, you'll see that The Witcher 3 is being heralded 'Game of the Month' on the mag's cover. It's good to know that Ciri and Geralt's adventure is still a fan favourite in 2077!
But if you were hoping to find a playable Ciri in Cyberpunk 2077 or perhaps an NPC version of the character, you're out of luck - these Easter eggs are the only points of connection between CD Projekt Red's franchises, for the time being at least. We'll keep you posted if any more nods are spotted!
