How will Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War handle the next-gen jump? Will there be a cross-gen bundle, and will you need to pay more for PS5 and Xbox Series X?

We are on the cusp of yet more information about the next entry into the long-long-running Call of Duty series.

It looks like we're heading back into Black Ops, but also back in time, as we head to the Cold War.

That could mean a lot of different things for the story and gameplay of the game, but here, we just want to talk about the fact that we're also on the cusp of both the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

So, how will Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War handle the next-gen leap?

Will Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War be cross-gen

There should be no surprises here.

Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War will undoubtedly be coming to both the current-gen consoles as well as the next-gen.

The thing that most people really want to know is the pricing of the game on this gen versus the next, and whether or not there will be a free upgrade.

That's the key thing, if you buy Black Ops: Cold War on PS4 or Xbox One, will you also own it on PS5 or Xbox Series X when they release?

What is the cross-gen bundle?

According to a datamine revealed by Twitter user @theMW2Ghost, it looks as though there will be something called the cross-gen bundle.

This will likely cost more than the standard version of the game, but it sounds as though it'll give you both this and the next-gen version of it.

That's good news to a point, but the fact is that this is something that Microsoft is trying to make standard on their console, and Activision is likely going to charge more for the cross-gen version, meaning that people will be out of pocket.

It's unsurprising, but still a little bit disappointing for fans who would no doubt hope that their loyalty would be rewarded.
