Dell XPS 15 9500 vs Dell XPS 17 9700: what are the differences between the 2020 Dell XPS laptops in specs, features, price and release date?

We already knew about the new Dell XPS laptops thanks to some leaks, but we've finally had the official announcement of both the Dell XPS 15 9500 and the Dell XPS 17 9700.

Both of these 2020 Dell XPS laptops have impressive specs, good features, and plenty of reasons to buy them. They're also not too expensive at the low-end, but you can flex and get some monstrous machines at the high end.

You might not be sure which one is for you, though. After all, is it just the size that's the difference, or is there more to it?

Obviously the Dell XPS 15 9500 has 15-inches in terms of screen size, while the Dell XPS 9700 has 17 inches. But what other differences are there?

So, here's everything you need to know about the differences between Dell XPS 15 9500 and the Dell XPS 17 9700...

Dell XPS 15 9500 vs Dell XPS 17 9700 specs

The lowest spec version of the XPS 15 9500 has these specs:

• 10th Generation Intel® Core™ i5-10300H

• Windows 10 Pro 64bit
• GB, 2x4GB, DDR4, 2933MHz
• 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive
• Intel® UHD Graphics

We don't know the Dell XPS 17 9700 lowest specs yet, but it's likely it'll be similar or just a smidge more powerful. It's also possible they go for the NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1650 Ti 4GB GDDR6 with Max-Q video card as standard for the XPS 17 9700 too.

Dell XPS 15 9500 vs Dell XPS 17 9700 features

The main feature difference here is the size, the XPS 15 9500 is apparently the "world's smallest 15.6-inch performance class laptop", while the XPS 17 9700 claims to be "smallest 17-inch laptop on the planet."

Despite having a bigger screen, though, the XPS 17 9700 is said to be "smaller than 48% of 15-inch laptops" because it has a 93.7% screen to body ratio.

The other differences are most likely going to be in regards to specs, but without the full list of XPS 17 9700 specs, it's hard to say anything other than the XPS 17 9700 will likely be more powerful, but the XPS 15 9500 will likely have better battery life.

Dell XPS 15 9500 vs Dell XPS 17 9700 release date

A big old difference here: the XPS 15 9500 is already out, which means you can order it right now on the Dell website and get it at some point when it gets delivered.

The XPS 17 9700, on the other hand, is simply described by Dell as "coming soon". Hopefully, that means by the end of the month, but there's no way of knowing until we're told officially.

Dell XPS 15 9500 vs Dell XPS 17 9700 price

Another one where we've only got half of the information. On the Dell website, you can see that the XPS 15 9500 starts at £1,419 and goes up to £2,149 at its best.

The Dell XPS 17 9700 doesn't have a listed price on the Dell site yet, but it will likely be around £2,000 for the low-end, and possibly up to double that for the high-end, it depends on what they decide to put in it. We'll be sure to update you when we have more info...
