Russian propaganda claims Ukraine has created Captain America supersoldiers to destroy them

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has not gone as well as Russia expected. Instead of the easy battle it predicted, Russia has been met with a strong enemy fighting for its homeland. In response, Russia does what Russia does bestmost: propaganda.

Russian propaganda and Ukrainian super soldiers

The bizzare claims came from Russian state media organisation Kommersant. In the article, the propaganda website claims that Ukranian scientists are creating Captain America-style supersoldiers in underground bio labs.

Ukranian supersoldiers have allegedly been created in partnership with the United States military. The country’s “secret experiments” are said to create “deadly monsters” without any emotions designed only for killing.

Deputy chair of the State Duma, Irina Yarovaya, claimed that the supersoldier drugs completely destroy the human inside. They claimed: “[the experiment] completely neutralize the last traces of human consciousness and turn them into the most cruel and deadly monsters.”

As for the US’ part in the project, they said: “this system for the control and creation of a cruel murder machine was implemented under the management of the United States.”

Where did these rumours come from?

The Russian propaganda claiming that Ukraine has supersoldiers is just one part of the country’s mass misinformation campaign. Misinformation is Russia‘s favourite tool, and has been for years.

The origins of this supersoldier rumour, of course, originates from Twitter. Way back in March, multiple fake stories were spread on social media claiming that Ukraine has access to huge underground bio labs.

Over the course of months, the propaganda campaign has turned to bio-engineered soldiers straight out of Marvel comics. Obviously, this is used as a way to (poorly) explain why Russia is losing.
