Anthropic has made it even more convenient to access its popular AI chatbot, Claude, by introducing dedicated desktop applications for Windows and macOS. These apps bring Claude's capabilities directly to your desktop, creating a seamless, centralised workspace for both free and premium users.
The apps are available to download from the Claude for desktop sites, with versions tailored for Windows, Windows on ARM and macOS platforms. The apps are currently in their beta stages, meaning further updates and requirements are on the horizon.
Upon installation, users can log in with a Google account or an email link, which grants quick access to Claude's core functionality similar to the website experience. Users can upload various files from Microsoft Office documents and PDFs to code files—for Claude to analyse and summarise. The desktop app seamlessly syncs with Claude's mobile and web versions, meaning users can continue conversations across devices with access to the same chat history and account settings.
Anthropic has not only introduced desktop apps but also a new dictation feature for Claude's mobile versions on iOS, Android, and iPadOS. This user-friendly feature allows to record and send up to 10-minute voice messages for Claude to transcribe and respond to, making it easier for users who are always on the go to stay connected.
These advancements are a testament to Anthropic's commitment to innovation and its goal to compete against AI rivals such as OpenAI's ChatGPT. With a valuation of more than $40 billion, Anthropic is seeking further capital to enhance Claude's features and versatility, potentially establishing Claude as a competitive, multifaceted AI assistant across platforms.
