Thor Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has told fans that the next film in the series, Love And Thunder, will be radically different from the previous film. Waititi made the comments whilst talking to Empire Magazine after wrapping up filming last month.
His previous effort, Thor Ragarok was critically praised with a 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed over $854 million at the box office. The film was Waititi’s first major studio film and first Marvel directed feature film.
Waititi will once again star alongside Chris Hemsworth in the film, along with returning stars like Tessa Thompson and Natalie Portman. Christian Bale will also feature in the film, playing the villain Gorr God The Butcher.
The director went into detail about why he believed the film is going to be the most unique yet, and how fans can expect something totally different from Ragnarok.
“It shouldn’t make sense”
Waititi originally discussed how unique the film was in a post on Instagram last month, labelling it ‘the craziest thing’ I’ve ever done. He went into more detail in his interview with Empire Magazine.
“Well, just between (me and) you and the readers, I’ve done some crazy shit in my life. I’ve lived, like, ten lifetimes. But it’s the craziest film I’ve ever done,” commented Waititi.
Waititi elaborated in the interview: “If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it wouldn't make sense. It’s almost like it shouldn’t be made. If you walked into a room and said, ‘I want this and this and this.’ Who’s in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you’d never work again. Maybe I won’t after this.”
The director added that the sequel will have more ‘emotion’ than the previous film, as well as lots of thunder and a lot more Thor.
What do we know?
Unlike most major Marvel films, Thor: Love and Thunder has been kept under wraps pretty securely. However, there are several rumours surrounding the film. Firstly, we do know that there will be no appearance from Loki in the movie, as Tom Hiddlestone was quite open about the two characters going their own way for the time being.
We also know that Russel Crowe will appear in the film, playing Zeus. Crowe’s appearance is likely more of a cameo than a major plot player, but it does open the universe up to some other cool things.
It’s rumoured that The Guardians Of The Galaxy will also make an appearance, as Chris Pratt and other stars from the series will reportedly appear in the movie.
