Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 looks like it’s going to be another quality PS5 exclusive but fans are complaining about costumes again. Unfortunately, this looks like it’s going to be another example of “puddlegate,” where gamers think one small detail will ruin the whole game (it won’t).
A Twitter user going by Mr. Wayne has done a comparison of how Peter Parker’s costume looked in the reveal trailer and the story trailer. Based on the images, it’s clear that the CGI trailer has more detail and brighter colors, while the gameplay video is lacking in both.
Unfortunately, fans in the comments are already judging the quality of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 based on these images alone. Granted, there are defenders who acknowledge that gameplay and CGI are completely different from one another, but that hasn’t stopped gamers from complaining.
“Nah, this is a legitimate downgrade. That original suit was flawless,” said @HaloToTheKing.
“I feel like the problem isn’t the white lines but literally everything else,” says @acidkck. “They toned down the black on the webbing on his entire suit and the logo on his chest looks dull compared to the left. Unnecessary change.”
“It’s not about the details, but that the black outlines on the suit are now white and it looks worse for some,” defends @tomboymichiru. “Same as for the puddles it wasn’t the about the puddles but because they where removed to hide the fact that they lied about real time reflections in first screenshots.”
While there are legitimate complaints to be had with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, this post might have some bias behind it. One fan pointed out how the blurrier image on the right is actually zoomed in because Peter was zoomed out in this shot. There are complaints to be had with the actual costume itself but this just feels wrong.
Once again, there are legitimate complaints to be had with the PS5 exclusive. We actually trashed some of the horrid costume designs in the game’s Deluxe Edition. However, this just feels like fans wanting to nitpick for the sake of it, especially since the sequel will likely be of quality when it releases.
