Sony finally comments on The Amazing Spider-Man 3 fan campaign

Spider-Man: No Way Home gave Andrew Garfield’s version of Peter Parker a second chance. After two poorly received Amazing Spider-Man movies and a smidge of behind the scenes controversy, Garfield's webhead was axed, making the way for Tom Holland to enter the scene.

However, as anyone with even a mild interest in movies knows at this point, Garfield recently returned to the role for No Way Home. Starring alongside two other Spider-Men, Garfield stole the show; so much so that fans are begging for Sony to make The Amazing Spider-Man 3. But will they?

Sony comments on The Amazing Spider-Man 3

In the month’s since No Way Home’s release, the #MakeTASM3 fan campaign has made waves online. The fan demand for Garfield’s return has been astronomical, with almost all fan videos for the movie surrounding his version of the character.

The #MakeTASM3 campaign is so popular that current Spider-Man Tom Holland has commented on the demand. Holland said: “should Sony decide to do that, they would have my full support, and obviously, so would Andrew." That was back in February.

Now, ahead of the home release of No Way Home, Sony has finally commented on the situation. In a tweet for a trailer dedicated to Garfield's Spider-Man, the studio acknowledged the overwhelming demands. They said:

“The Amazing Peter #3! (Note: Yes, we’ve seen the hashtag. No, we don’t decide which movies get made. We’re just the social team.)

Will the movie ever release?

There's no telling whether or not Sony will go through with making The Amazing Spider-Man 3. However, with the studio already doing its own thing with Venom, Morbius, Kraven and Madam Web, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

Sony had made itself very clear about its plans to capitalise as much as possible on the Spider-Man IP. For example, the movie studio is moving fast to create its Venom vs Spider-Man movie, with no idea which version of Spider-Man he'll be fighting.

For many, the idea of Venom fighting Andrew Garfield is the perfect compromise. Garfield would get another movie, Tom Holland could get an uninterrupted new trilogy, and fans get the blockbuster of the year. Additionally, in No Way Home, Garfield's Parker said he wanted to “fight an alien”, and Garfield is up for it.

Whatever happens, there will certainly be more Spider-Man content out there. Hopefully, Garfield will get a new movie to truly shine as the wall-crawler, but it probably won't happen anytime soon. For the record, we would like to be wrong about that.
