Liam Neeson, who played Qui-Gon in the Star Wars prequel movies has claimed he is confused by all the Star Wars spin-offs.
Neeson made the comments while talking to Collider earlier this year about his upcoming film The Ice Road. In the interview, Neeson touches on seeing movies for the first time in the 70s, his thoughts on the Obi-Wan spin-off and how the fans of the series have changed.
Fans have speculated Liam Neeson might make an appearance in the upcoming Obi-Wan Disney+ series, as Qui-Gon was his mentor. Qui-Gon was the first Jedi to learn how to manifest himself through the force after dying, so it would make sense for him to appear to Obi-Wan.
Neeson has stood his ground on the rumours, saying they are false. This could be the actor purposefully misdirecting fans ahead of the series' release.
Confusing Spin-offs
In the interview, Neeson discusses the amount of Star Wars spin-offs Disney is creating: "I know there's so many spin-offs. I'm a little confused, I must admit.
The actor also touched on the changing dynamic of Star Wars fans, and how it changed from the prequel trilogy to now. The Phantom Menace, it was like 'oh, would you sign this it's for my kid' and now it's like 'oh would you sign this it's for my father' or 'would you sign this it's for my grandfather.”
Neeson, like many of us, is looking forward to watching the Obi-Wan spin-off: “There are all these spinoffs, and I'm not surprised there's a spinoff of Obi-Wan, and the nuance there -- I look forward to seeing it, very much.”
Qui-Gon spin-off?
Neeson has stated in the past that he would be open to playing Qui-Gon again. Star Wars hasn’t announced any plans for a spin-off, but Qui-Gon would be a great character.
His appearance in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, however short-lived, was memorable and his character played an important role in Anakin Skywalker's narrative arc.
A spin off for the character could focus on a younger Qui-Gon who worked under Count Dooku, who eventually turned into a sith.
