Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are finally getting those long-awaited DLC bundles physical collectors have been waiting for, with some minor issues. For the most part, players will get the complete packages of these flawed RPGs but some downloading will be needed to play all of it.
According to the official Pokémon website, these packages will come with the base game and the much-touted expansion pass. While the cartridge will have all of the base game and Part 1: The Teal Mask, an additional download is needed for Part 2: The Indigo Disk.
It’s obviously a bit disappointing to see an update needed to download the second part, especially since Sword and Shield’s DLC bundles had everything in the cartridge. Still, at least fans aren’t being given a download code to get everything, something games with less storage space have done in the past.
Fans who have been holding out on Pokémon Scarlet and Violet may want to pick these bad boys up. These packages have proven to be quite the commodities, as Sword and Shield’s DLC physical bundles have sold out and can sell for quite high in the second-hand market. If anything, get these releases for the value alone.
The Teal Mask recently came out and got a mixed reception. While many enjoyed some of the new story elements and areas, the technical issues were still prevalent. Fans are holding out hope that The Indigo Disk is a bit better, especially since it will have starter Pokémon roaming in the wild.
‘Mixed reception’ will be the legacy of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, though it didn’t have to be that way. Nintendo promised that these technical issues would be handled but recent updates have shown that isn’t the case. Rumours claim that the Switch 2 will make these games run a lot better but we’ll believe it when there’s footage.
