Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Shiny Gimmighoul raid is as broken as you’d expect

The new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Gimmighoul raid has been another unfortunate failure for the most recent mainline Pokémon games.

After a number of Tera Raid issues since the game’s launch, including the Bad Egg glitch, many fans thought the mechanic would be sorted by now. Almost expectedly, that’s not the case.

After yesterday’s stellar Nintendo Direct that revealed titles such as a new Super Mario RPG remake and the wrong Luigi’s Mansion remaster, Game Freak released the raid to sizeable fanfare, until fans discovered what was wrong with it.

For starters, the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Shiny Gimmighoul raid is a bit of a lie. As Pokémon data analyst Shibuna_Switch reveals that the new raid launched with standard Tera Raid shiny odds, a rate of 1/4103.05 for every Pokémon. This means that no player was guaranteed to get the shiny Pokémon during the raid.

Even worse, the new Tera Raid event features a Pokémon that has a minuscule difference between its normal and shiny variant. With the sparkled effects of the Tera Raid environment, it’s near impossible to see whether or not your encounter is a shiny version.

Additionally, Tera Raid rewards were also broken when the Scarlet and Violet Gimmighoul raid started. This meant that everyone participating would receive no item rewards for finishing a raid. So, if you didn’t get your shiny Pokémon — which you likely weren’t getting — you also got nothing, you lose, good day, sir.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has seen a wealth of technical issues since it launched last year, but it’s been long enough where fans expect the game to be at least technically stable. With new paid DLC on the way, Game Freak’s foundations for its open world title are still falling apart at the seams. While it is still a fun game, it needs to be fixed.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is available now on Nintendo Switch. The game’s two DLC packs launch in Fall and Winter of this year.
