Nick Fury MCU replacement has already been decided, and it’s not Maria Hill

Samuel Jackson’s Nick Fury made his first appearance in Iron Man way back in 2007. As the connective tissue between the early MCU movies, Jackson’s character created The Avengers we know today.

However, Nick Fury is not going to be around forever. In fact, Marvel has already started making plans for the character’s replacement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Who will be replacing Nick Fury in the MCU?

In the recent Marvel art book Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: The Art of the Series, new details were revealed on Fury’s replacement.

In the book, it was confirmed that Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ mysterious Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Appearing during both Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Black Widow, the character was expected to only be the leader of the villainous Thunderbolts.

However, according to the book, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is expected to be the next Nick Fury for a lot of characters. With the upcoming Secret Wars set to change our perspective of Fury, Val could be around for some much needed stability.

Via The Direct, the book reads:

“The Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine is a character that has a rich publication history… and to some degree, figuring out who can fill those shoes, which in our mind is in a way taking the reins from Nick Fury, was tough. But when we thought of Julia Louis-Dreyfus, there was a fun energy to her that immediately you realize this person has a weight and a gravity, but they're not the same as Nick Fury. It's a completely different energy.”

The book continues to describe the character as a “new leader” for the “marvel cinematic universe”. This means that the character will undoubtedly be integral to its future.

When will we say goodbye to Samuel Jackson?

The next major event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe appears to be an adaptation of Secret Wars. In this comic book storyline, multiple established characters have been replaced with Skrulls, including people inside SHIELD.

At the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Earth’s Nick Fury was shown to be chilling in space while a Skrull took his place. Perhaps he’s moving into retirement?

Whatever the case, it seems that Fury’s MCU career is nearing its end. While Samuel Jackson still looks damn good at his age of 73, it’s time to find a replacement.
