Shinobi, rejoice, a new Naruto game is seemingly on the way. Long-time publisher Bandai Namco recently recently filed for a trademark for Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, exciting Naruto fans everywhere excited.
While a new game in the acclaimed anime arena series isn’t unlikely, there’s a good chance that these are ports of older games. This might be confusing as we’ve already seen HD ports of all the mainline Ultimate Ninja Storm games. However, there are two games that didn’t get the HD treatment yet; Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations and Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution.
Considering how the leaked trademark (via Reddit) is called Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections, that raises the possibility of these two getting ported. Admittedly, this could be something else entirely, whether it be a console game or mobile title, but old ports wouldn’t be surprising.
Despite not being as flashy as some of the later Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games, there is some merit to having ports of these games. Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations properly follows the stories of young Naruto and Sasuke, something the first Ninja Storm didn’t do. Meanwhile, Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution covers the Akatsuki’s formation, which is intriguing enough.
In terms of gameplay, Generations introduced great tweaks to the battle system, including limiting how many times players could teleport away from attacks. On the flip side, Revolution limited players by making them choose ultimate attacks or transformations, which wasn’t popular with fans, and didn’t return for Ultimate Ninja Storm 4.
Both Naruto games also have plenty of original animation, so that might be enough for some fans of the series. Completionists will also appreciate having all of the Ultimate Ninja Storm games together, assuming that this is what Ultimate Ninja Storm Connections is.
