Meta is expanding its interaction SDK (ISDK) capabilities. It is now accessible to Unreal Engine developers as of version 69. This marks a significant advancement for developers trying to create immersive virtual reality experiences, as ISDK was previously limited to Unity.
By supporting Unreal Engine 5.4 and later, Meta is unlocking potential. More developers can now add high-quality interactions to their VR environments.
High-Quality Interactions for Unreal

With this update, Unreal developers can now use the same interaction features as Unity developers, including hand and other control-based interactions. Core features such as one and two-handed object transformations, grabbing and raycasting are now available. This results in more intuitive and natural user experiences.
ISDK's connection with Meta XR's Unreal Plugin also ensures smooth support for these interactions. This offers out-of-the-box functionality that previously required custom-built solutions.
This initiative is part of Meta's larger plan to streamline the creation of cross-platform virtual reality experiences. It also assures developers of Meta's commitment to future updates and expanded support, promising more interaction features and a complete Horizon OS UI set for Unreal.
Simplifying Cross-Platform Development

The release of the Unreal Engine ISDK also supports Meta's initiative to ease cross-platform development. Apart from this integration, Meta has also released the Interaction SDK Essentials package for Unity, which no longer requires the Meta XR Core SDK. This new package supports Unity XR's system, allowing developers to create apps with a wide range of VR headsets, including non-Meta devices.
This reduces the amount of time developers spend creating fundamental elements from scratch. By offering pre-built components for essential interactions, ISDK ensures users don't have to relearn how to interact with various apps. This shortens the development time and improves the user experience.
