XCOM developer Firaxis’ fantastic superhero tactics game Marvel’s Midnight Suns is no longer coming to Nintendo Switch.
After its PS5, Xbox Series and PC launch last year, a last-gen version of the game was still in the works for Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. Unfortunately, the latter version is now out of the question.
Officially confirmed by Firaxis, the last-gen console release is scheduled for May 11th. However, Nintendo Switch players will have to find another way to play the brilliant superhero game. Perhaps a cloud version will release in the future.
“We're excited to announce that digital versions of Marvel's Midnight Suns on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are scheduled to launch on Thursday, May 11,” Firaxis announced. “Note that a Nintendo Switch version of Marvel's Midnight Suns is no longer planned.”
The new release of Marvel’s Midnight Suns comes alongside the launch of the game’s final DLC chapter: Blood Storm. Midnight Sun’s DLC — including Venom, Morbius, Deadpool and Storm — all revolve around a vampiric threat as well as comic book devil Mephisto.
In the DLC, you can play as four additional heroes against the evil Vampyres with their own new abilities, costumes, social links and more. They can even be used in the main campaign. Those who manage to complete every DLC mission will also face off against a mysterious new bonus boss.
The new last-gen versions of Marvel’s Midnight Suns do not come with this DLC packaged in. Instead, you’ll have to purchase either the Season Pass or the game’s Legendary Edition to gain access to the extra missions and features.
Firaxis’ comic book game has received glowing reviews from gamers who have played it, but the game has flopped sales wise. It’s a shame, as Midnight Suns may just be one of the most unique AAA titles we’ve seen in years.
While we didn’t review Marvel’s Midnight Suns, this writer has played countless hours of Firaxis’ tactics game. While it may not be for everyone, the new superhero adventure is genuinely one of the best Marvel games to release on any platform, and it’s an absolute treat for comic book fans.
Unfortunately, we can’t speak for the quality of the game’s new last-gen ports, but on current-gen consoles, the game is a beautiful and unique time with solid performance and brilliant visuals. We highly suggest you give it a shot.
