Marvel vs DC continues to be a hot topic amongst fans of geeky media and Mortal Kombat’s Ed Boon is part of that community. Boon recently admitted that working on a game with characters from both comic companies would be a dream come true for him.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Boon was asked about a possible crossover game between the world’s most popular comic publishers. While Boon acknowledged all of the factors that go against a crossover happening, the longtime creator did say he would love to work on this hypothetical fighter.

"I mean, we did a number of games with DC characters. When you're kids and you're like, 'Who would win in a fight, Mighty Mouse or Superman?' Just these dumb different universe things. There's part of us that still [has those] immature conversations," Boon said. "To me, Spider-Man and Batman would be the coolest thing in the world. So of course we'd love to do that. But it's probably very difficult to jump that hurdle."

There were several Marvel vs DC crossover comics in the past, which culminated in the massive JLA/Avengers comic. Since then, there hasn’t been any crossover of any kind, due to both companies being incredibly protective of their characters.

Boon has actually witnessed first-hand how protective DC can be of its characters. When Midway Games worked on DC Universe vs Mortal Kombat, the folks at DC didn’t want their characters getting decapitated. Thankfully, the company has softened their stance, with Peacemaker coming to Mortal Kombat 1 and The Joker previously appearing in Mortal Kombat 11.

In a way, Mortal Kombat has sort of become the Smash Bros. for edgy adults when it comes to crossovers. Homelander from The Boys and Omni-Man from Invincible will be DLC characters in Mortal Kombat 1. Speaking of Smash Bros., we’re interested in seeing just how this fighter performs on the Nintendo Switch.

Currently, there’s no indication of NetherRealm working on a Marvel vs DC game. There are rumours of the company working on a Marvel fighting game, which should be similar to their Injustice work.
