Last February saw one of the most controversial events in Star Wars history: the firing of Gina Carano. Known for the role of Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, the actress was let go for creating “abhorrent” and antisemitic posts on social media.
Before her firing, Lucasfilm planned to make Carano a huge star for the franchise. If all went smoothly, the actress would've returned for The Mandalorian and the leading role in Rangers of the New Republic. Obviously, that won't be happening.
Mandalorian actress Emily Swallow defends Carano
Reported by The Direct, Carano’s co-star Emily Swallow discussed the actress’ firing at a Dragon Con panel. Despite Carano’s brash social media presence that compared conservatives to holocaust victims, Swallow stated that Carano is “welcoming of other peoples' opinions”.
She said:
“All I can say is that Gina, and working with her personally, what impressed me about her from the beginning is that she is so interested in other peoples' opinions, and is so welcoming of other peoples' opinions. She wants to have a genuine dialogue. She's just like that in her day-to-day life. On set, she's more curious about other people. She's very giving, she's very gracious."
However, despite coming to Carano’s aid, Swallow explained that she knows “so little about what happened.” Nevertheless, the actress stuck to her guns, describing Carano as a “lovely person”. Swallow continued, citing “cancel culture” as a layered issue.

Will Carano ever come back?
Nope. It's pretty obvious that Disney and Lucasfilm want nothing to do with Gina Carano. The actress was controversial far before her post comparing mocked conservatives to holocaust victims.
The character of Cara Dune could definitely appear again. However, for the foreseeable future, Lucasfilm has retired the character. Oh well, there's a lot more characters to see in the galaxy far, far away.
