After the success of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Game Freak is reportedly returning to Unova with new Pokémon Black and White sequels. The first official sequels since Black and White 2, this new spin-off will be in lieu of huge remakes for the DS originals.

Pokémon leakers at Centro Leaks recently commented on a post discussing the past and future aesthetic of Black and White’s Opelucid City. In the post, the leakers teased a brand-new sequel to the Unova games.

Centro Leaks commented on the fact that the original Pokémon Legends was focused on the past, and the rougher Scarlet and Violet were set in the present. The leakers teased that the next release could be a version of Unova set in the future.

In a follow-up tweet, the leaker explained that they are no longer excited for the upcoming Scarlet and Violet DLC expansion. Instead, they’re feeling immense “hype” for the next game instead.

Further replies from the leaker reveal that the upcoming “rumoured” Unova sequel will be a “Legends scale game”. The game will also be more like similar Scarlet and Violet than a full Legends follow-up. Set in Unova, fans should expect gym battles and the typical Pokémon fluff that was missing in Legends: Arceus.

Pokémon Legends: Acreus was released in January 2022 after an announcement less than one year prior. The game was highly criticised upon its reveal for lacklustre visuals, but ended up looking better than Game Freak’s mainline Pokémon game Scarlet and Violet.

With Scarlet and Violet DLC releasing this year, the Pokémon Black and White sequels could release as early as February 2024. With this in mind, the game will likely be a release on the base Nintendo Switch hardware instead of a Nintendo Switch 2 game.

With so much love for Black and White’s Unova, the new Legends game has a lot to prove. Will Game Freak actually be able to match the hype?
