Kathleen Kennedy contract renewed for three more years of Star Wars production

As one of the most successful film producers of all time, Kathleen Kennedy was the top pick to bring back Star Wars. Specifically chosen by George Lucas, Kennedy successfully ushered in a new era with The Force Awakens in 2015.

Kennedy's tenure as Lucasfilm president has been met with mixed responses. The president was in charge of the release of universally panned Rise of Skywalker. However, Kennedy has also been at the forefront of the franchise's successful TV launches.

Kathleen Kennedy renews Star Wars contract

Over the years, outraged fans have blamed Kennedy for all of Star Wars’ failures, but none of its successes. After almost a decade of fan vitriol, it wouldn't be surprising if Kennedy was looking for a way out. However, the Lucasfilm president has done just the opposite.

In a report by Collider, it was revealed that Kathleen Kennedy has renewed her contract. This means the producer is extending her Star Wars tenure. While her contract should've ended this year, Kennedy has signed on to continue steering the company's busy ship.

The Lucasfilm president will now remain at the head of the company until the end of 2024. This will be long enough to see in the next era of Star Wars movies. Reportedly, that era will start with an unannounced Old Republic movie that replaces Patty Jenkins’ now-canned Rogue Squadron.

A prestigious producer

Kennedy’s run as the head of Lucasfilm hasn’t been a home run. On the other hand, it hasn’t been a complete mess. Despite an unsatisfying ending for the sequel trilogy, Star Wars is more popular than ever. With the ballooning scale of TV shows, that popularity won't dwindle anytime soon.

The producer has been at the heart of some of the most beloved films of all time, including Gremlins, The Goonies and Indiana Jones. While a certain crowd of Star Wars fans will always blame Kennedy, the producer’s catalogue of work speaks for itself.
