Minecraft may need no introduction, but a good article does, so here’s ours: if you need help knowing how to fix Minecraft launcher, then you’ve come to the right place. If you weren’t aware, Minecraft offers players a launcher which, in theory at least, makes the game as easy to launch as possible. We say in theory, because the reality is sometimes a little different.

Many players have been complaining about difficulties getting the launcher to work. These are then preventing those same players from accessing their games. Luckily, there are steps you can take to mitigate this problem, should you be affected.

How To Fix Minecraft Launcher

There are several potential solutions to this problem. So as always, we recommend working your way through our suggestions and hopefully, you’ll strike gold.

  • Start by restarting your computer. As is so often the case, a glitch can be quickly fixed by this remedy.
  • Assuming it’s something a little more serious, make sure that the Minecraft launcher is added to your ‘safe list’ on your antivirus. Occasionally, an overzealous antivirus can block the software from working properly.
  • You can also try downloading the launcher directly from the Microsoft store. Some players are reporting issues when they installed the app via the Xbox app, so this is an alternative option.
  • The Minecraft team have also provided a list of potential alternative download options If you are playing the Java Edition. So this may be worth exploring if it applies to you.
  • Try running Minecraft with administrator privileges. To do this:
    • Right click on the Minecraft executable file and click on Run as administrator.
  • If you’ve installed any Mods, try removing those in case they are causing the issue. Add them back in one by one, to see if there is one specific mod that is causing the issue.
  • You can also try deleting launcher profiles. If these files have become corrupted, they may prevent the launcher from working properly. To do this:
    • Open File Explorer and look for the .Minecraft folder.
    • Inside that folder, you need to delete the launcher_profiles.json file.
    • Once this has gone, try opening the launcher and see if it works.
  • Make sure you’ve installed any system or game updates.

What Is The Problem?

In very simple terms, the problem is that the Minecraft launcher won’t work, preventing players from accessing the game. Sometimes it is accompanied by an error message. Reports vary, but some say they have encountered the message, “Launching the game failed! Unable to copy file. Error details: The system cannot move the file to a different disk drive”. Others have reported the following: “Minecraft Launcher is not available in your account. Error code: 0x803F8001”.

There are several possible reasons that you may be encountering this error, as you will have gathered from the wide range of possible fixes. Pinning down exactly what the underlying cause is though, can be difficult. Common explanations include issues with the Minecraft Launcher profile, which then prevents the launcher from starting up. Third-party services can also interfere with the launcher.

The most recent launcher was intended to make it possible to launch Minecraft, Minecraft: Java Edition and Minecraft Dungeons from one location. If you are using (or trying to use) the new launcher, remember it runs on Windows 10 version 1903 (May 2019) or newer. So if you are on a really old computer, this may be a factor.
