Since launching in March 2020, Call Of Duty: Warzone has amassed over 100 million players. But sadly, some of those players cannot play the game, due to a Warzone DirectX Unrecoverable Error.
In order to help those forlorn souls, we've put together a guide to explain what this error is, what causes it, and how to fix it. So if you are unlucky enough to get hit by this, fear not. We'll give you the tools you need to hit back.
What causes the Warzone DirectX Encountered an Unrecoverable Error?
The error seems to manifest when players are launching the game. But instead of opening, the game simply stops loading, and the following message appears:
DirectX encountered an unrecoverable error
Unsurprisingly, the error is caused by an issue with DirectX. DirectX is an API - a series of application programming interfaces that supports the smooth running of software. If the version of DirectX is not compatible with the game, or doesn't meet the requirements for it, this can cause the error to pop up. So what options do we have for fixing it? Let's have a look.
How to check your DirectX version is compatible
The very first thing to check is that your DirectX version is up to date, and compatible with COD Warzone. You can find the DirectX system requirement for the game on the publisher's website. Compare this with the version running on your computer. If your version is not compatible, then simply update your DirectX to the right version, and this may well resolve your problem.
Update your software and graphics card drivers
Another potential fix is by updating your graphics card drivers, to make sure that they are fully up to date. This is especially important if Warzone has just had an update or a patch, as they will very often need the latest drivers to work properly. Go to AMD's website or open GeForce Experience, depending on what brand of graphics card your computer has. You can then check for updates and download any new drivers.
As well as graphics drivers, it's important to make sure that your Windows system and Warzone software are kept fully up to date as well, to ensure optimum functionality.
Use Scan and Repair
Scan and Repair is available on Battle.net. Go there, select COD Modern Warfare on the left hand side of the page, and select Scan and Repair from the menu. As the name suggests, this will check your software for any problems, and if it finds any, it will attempt to repair them.
All the usual suspects
We'll round off this list with a reminder to check all the obvious solutions as well:
- Remember to try restarting the game and launcher in case it was a one-off problem.
- You can also try rebooting your computer, which can often resolve any bugs that have appeared.
- Avoid having lots of programs open at the same time.
- Make sure your internet connection is working properly.
Hopefully, with these tips, your DirectX related woes will soon be but a distant memory, and you can get back to enjoying Warzone faster than it takes to reload a rocket launcher.
