General Hux could return on Disney+ if there's a good story, says Gleeson

Star Wars' Skywalker Saga ended with a bit of a whimper, much like the life of First Order General Hux. While the final movie killed off the once-menacing enemy, the character could return in prequel TV shows.

With so many Disney+ shows in the works, General Hux actor Donald Gleeson says that he's open to return. After all, the character’s life was barely touched upon in the movies before his rather comical demise.

Will there be a General Hux Disney+ series?

There aren't any current plans to bring back General Hux in new Star Wars content. However, actor Donald Gleeson has expressed a desire to return to the character in the future. If the story is good enough to warrant a return, Gleeson will happily step back into the character’s fascistic boots.

In an interview with ComicBook, Gleeson revealed that he does see a future for the character:

A couple people have asked because there is so much stuff happening in the Star Wars universe, but it’s always about if the story’s good,” Gleeson says. “I’m up for anything if the story’s good, you know? So yeah, bring it on, if so, and if not, I think I did plenty. Three movies is a lot.”

What could a standalone show entail?

General Armitage Hux has a very fleshed out backstory in the current Star Wars canon. Regularly abused by his Imperial father, Hux dreamed of becoming a powerful ruler of the Galaxy. In the First Order, the character would rise to power as the Commander of Starkiller Base in The Force Awakens.

As well as seeing the character’s backstory in TV form, there's also a chance to redeem parts of Rise of Skywalker. Episode 9 saw Hux betray the First Order in a very split move for the character. While Hux has a massive vendetta against Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, it didn't quite make sense for the character to turn so quickly.

A series set between The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker could flesh out the character’s motivation better. While it would likely require the return of Adam Driver as Kylo Ren to truly make the story interesting, it could be a good move for Disney.
